if your changing out ignition switch because of lost keys dont ---go to a dealer with your vin and proof of ownership and have key cut --if removing for other reasons with out key you have to drill and break it out and will still stand chance of causing some additional damage

The ECU is not reading the chip in the key. Replacing the ECU will not solve the problem. It is an input issue(signal to ECU) not an output issue ( signal from ECU). Perform an OBDII scan of stored fault history. Probably an ignition switch problem.

If the key will not turn it is possibly associated with the steering lock. Try turning the steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn the key. If that does not work, it sounds like you may need a new ignition tumbler.

Yes, the tumbler is worn, possibly from a heavy key chain or abnormally frequent stop/starts. Ther amy also be a bad connection in the switch connections itself, that may not require a whole new ignition switch.
