They locking nut has come loose on the shift control arm on the side of the transmission, you need to put it in park and adjust it so the arm is all the way forward and the shift lever is all the way into the Park position, this should get rid of the car moving when the shifter lever is not in reverse.

1998 tranny problem. Feels like it is locked in forward gear even in reverse or nutral.no1 or 2 gears either. But every once in a while it works properly. What is the maybe solution?

A/t problems.
lets back up, (no pun)
the car moves forward in reverse on flat ground?
you need to stated the symptoms much more clear,.
pretend we cant drive it?
what does each location of the gear selector do.
what car do in each mode.

my wild guess (useless as cold beans) is the shift cable system is bad. (cable, and clips on ends)
all it takes is looking, at both ends,. to see if it really does shift. right.

2002 jeep grand cherokee wont reverse when in gear. hear it get into gear but wont move...

first check fluid is full by starting the engine have it blocked put in in nutral( to fill the bell houseing ) then check fluid level, more than likely you need to add fluid exspecally if your checking it in park with engine on or off park gives you a false reading on the dip stick

Won't go in reverse and all gears are in forward motion including nutral

check the linkage from the tranny, is it an automatic tranny ?, make sure the shifter cable is moveing in and out when you shift gears, if it moves both ways you might have to adjust the linkage again as it could have slipped, hope this helps.

Car was driving normal and while in drive acted like it went into nutral. Now it will not move forward or backwards and just revs in drive and reverse. No pre indication of any issues from a noise...

Check the fluid level. Is it overfull. Shut it off and let it sit for 10 minutes. If it still won't move it likely has a bad torque converter. This model is common for the pump shaft splines in the converter striping out.

Hi, my 1993 jeep 4x4 country won't go into reverse or nutral.

DID YOU RUN IT FOR A WHILE THEN RECHECK THE FLUID LEVEL? IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR STILL LOW ON FLUID.IT TAKES TIME TO FILL; THE TORQUE CONVERTER.

It won't switch gears out of park...automatic transmission

Have some one move the shift lever and you watch the linkage under the car to see if the lever is moving on the transmission. Sounds like the linkage is lose. Tighten the bolt on the linkage and you will off and running again.

i would say your reverse gear is locking up on you and that you need to get it to a transmission shop before you break the gear off trying to back it up,,it will mess up the other gears
