Question about 1997 Cadillac DeVille

What is going on? No matter what I change e.g. Oil or A/C gas/ coolant. I keep getting the reading onthe dash to service these items.

I had to go to the dealer and have them reset mine, it is like a reminder that goes off after so many miles,pain in the **** and cost me 50 bucks what a rippppp!

Merc E320cdi 2004 133542miles. The vehicle sucked in water and it stopped after a while it read "needs oil change visit garage" but the vehicle is now misfiring. What could be the problem?


When you say "the vehicle sucked in water" that was a critical clue. Now I'm not going to assume it ended up in a body of water after some post holiday celebrations, however let it be known that all newer cars use a vast amount of sensors that rely on a given voltage/resistance reading that the car's computer reads and interprets then reports to you or mechanic via code or warning on dash. Take it as factual and have it and all grounds checked along with terminals after servicing if you plan to keep the car. Safety and security items will also be affected if not now, soon.

My 2002 cadillac overheats and now the change oil message goes across the dash. When i check the oil it looks fine but the anti freeze is all gone. radiator stays cool but car gets really hot...what could...


Sorry to tell you, these vehicles are notorious for head gasket problems. Sometimes the coolant gets into the oil, and will make the oil look like a milkshake, but not always. The coolant could be burning out the tailpipe, but that is usually associated with some serious white smoking from the exhaust. Or it could be leaking externally and coming out on the ground. no matter which, it is a very serious, and expensive ordeal.

My truck when I slow down the oil gauge is very low and moves up and down. I replaced the oil presssure sending unit and changed the spark plugs. Lastnight I lost heat on my way home. What is wrong with...


Based on what you have written, first thing I'd look at is the coolant level. If low, drain your engine oil and check for coolant in there.
If you find coolant in the engine oil that would explain the changing pressure as coolant will not give you the same pressure reading as oil will..
If there is coolant in the oil it can be coming from either your intake manifold gasket or a cylinder head gasket. To determine which has failed you can have a hydrocarbon test done on the cooling system. If you see white smoke coming from the exhaust, assume the head gaskets have failed and don't bother with any further testing.
If hydrocarbons are present there, then the head gasket(s) have failed.
Also check for external coolant leaks as the two items may not be related.
If no oil is found in the radiator and there is no coolant in the engine oil, have a mechanical test gauge installed and read the actual oil pressure. If the mechanical gauge verifies what you see on the dash, you may have a partially obstructed pickup screen on the oil pump (requires that the pan be removed and the screen be cleaned).
You should not drive if you do find coolant in the engine oil. Coolant is not a lubricant and it will cause damage to the engine bearings...that requires an expensive rebuild or engine replacement.

Hello: From your description it sounds like you may have a blown head gasket. Find out if you have a repair shop that has the tool to check the coolant for exhaust gas in the cooling system

There's probably air in your system. Next to the water pump is a stand pipe with a bleeder screw. Loosen this and run the engine until coolant starts to bubble out. Air in the system will keep coolant from flowing and the engine will over heat.

If you have an 1988 old car and you wana keep it for as long as possible what things should be taken care of or changed over the years to run the car at its best


Keep a very close eye on your regular service items, trans fluid flushes, oil changes, and flush your other fluids as well, ie... brake and coolant.A very important item is to replace your timing belt at the specified intervals or it could fail and cause massaive internal engine damage.Hope I could help!!!

How much it cost for 100k milles service? Thanks.


If you go to the dealer it will cost you a lot. If you go to an independant it will cost you far less. However, most of the items on a 100k service you can probably do yourself, I would sit down with my owners manual and read over the 100k service, you will be surprised to find it is relatively easy. It would consist of normal things like plugs, wires, oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter. Possibly changing the tranny fluid and filter. Possibly flushing the coolant and the brake fluid and basically checking everything over to make sure there are no leaks and everything is functioning properly. If it is recommending a timing belt change I would take it to a tech for that if you dont think you are up to the job, But for the most part you can handle the service yourself and save yourself a bunch of dollars.
