How much ac compressor oil is needed in a 1997 Buick Lesabre?

Depends on what kind of noise and where its coming from.
Could be a problem inside the compressor, or the ac clutch, or something else.
Did you get a warranty with the compressor ?

r-134, 39 oz of freon, pag 150 oil, 8 oz oil, now that is the capacity for a new compressor and systen cleaned, or you need to drain yours old compressor and add half to the compressor and half into the accumalator/drier to have the correct oil amount in the system.

Hello: Drain oil out of old compressor, measure amount and put that amount in new compressor. Approximately 8 oz.

I had the same problem with my LeSabre. I took it to a mechanic and he found nothing wrong. Said it was an old car and things like that go out. I took it to a local ac repair shop. Turns out that the ac needed recharging. Anytime the freon is low, the ac compressor will not engage, to prevent the compressor from burning up. Freon contains oil that lubricates the internal parts of the compressor. Have the system checked to find out if a simple recharge is needed.

This job requires special tools and special training. If you lack either, you risk SERIOUS personal injury.

You need to address oil levels, proper and legal refrigerant recovery, system evacuation, and recharge.

You were planning to also replace the receiver/dryer, correct? It also needs the oil in it measured and incorporated into the amount of oil (in %) that would need to be added. FAILURE to address these and other issues will guarantee premature system failure and likely compressor damage.

Take this job to a qualified shop.

You need to have the pressures checked you may have another problem your system never needs to be opened or anything cleaned out as long as the system has never been open to outside air for long period of time.

yes you can just ask for the belt for the same car without ac and do not forget to ask for a belt diagram

that would be a good suggestion. the guy probably do not know what he is talking about.

on another thought, from where you buy them, dont they have a way to test what you are buying if it is good or bad?

original problem : no power going to the compressor.

solution: test first if there is refrigerant. there is a pressure switch in the system that would prevent the compressor form engaging.
there is a fuse that would break in case you have a faulty coil.
there is an ac relay that could break anytime.
and so many more......

the last thing to replace is the climate control....
