You need to find the grey cap on the refrigerent line that is marked with an "L".

What type of freon used in a 1995 F150, owners manual does not specify and no tags after opening the hood.


1995 is tricky year for A/C as it changed from R12 to 134A around that time on most vehicles.Do the fill ports look like tire air valves,then they are R12.If they are as fat as your finger with possibly one with a blue cap and the other red its134A. Or both caps could be black but again will be fatter than a tire valve and cap threads will be internal in a 134A system.
DO NOT REFILL with any refrigerant that shows an EXPLOSIVE warning sticker on it.They are usually butane and propane mixes and you may not want that spraying on you in an accident situation.
TIP.If you see any fine grey material in the A/C system on a Ford,the systems A/C compressor is done and has contaminated the complete system.The system has to be completely cleaned before a new compressor can be fitted.A complete disassembly is required to clean the system of the grey material.If you have an R12 system it can be converted to 134A and you will get colder A/C as a bonus.

How do I convert from r12 to 134a cooling refrigerant in a 1992 Buick Lesabre?


I think you can still find the old R12 at a premium price. It would be worth it if your air con system holds well with no significant leaks. Genuine 12 Refrigerant LARGE SIZE 2 14 oz Cans
The old refrigerant and oil are not compatible with the new stuff. The expansion valve is questionable, may or may not work properly. The oil in the compressor, in the evaporator, in the condensor, and in the accumulator/filter/dryer need be removed thuroughly. New service port adapters are installed. Then the new R134 can be introduced. You may find a conversion kit with instructions.
I recall a bulletin calling for replacing the oil and reusing the refrigerant, repeatedly, 2-3X, the final oil replacement gets the new refrigerant.
When ever the system is exposed to the atmosphere, it should be evacuated before refilling. So much to think about and consider.

There is no valve. There is a small yellow cap on the port where you refill the R-134a. Sometimes they have a tag on them. But it looks like a big valve stem like on the tire. Remove the yellow cap and you hook the line from the can to that. You will have to shake the can while filling. And also have the a/c running when you are refilling. Otherwise the pressure won't bleed off of the compressor and it will not receive any on the new R-134a. Be sure to shake the can while refilling. Some of the refill containers have gauges on them. They are the best to make sure that you are getting the refrigerant in the system.

Air conditioner blower stopped working on 2004


If the blower works but its just not blowing cold air, its possible to recharge the AC system yourself. Most auto parts stores carry AC recharge kits. Instructions to recharge the AC are belowl

RECHARGING AC SYSTEM

1.Turn the truck on and turn AC on HIGH
2.Locate the low side AC line (will have a valve and cap similar to the cap on a tire)
3.Insert the oil or R-134A can to the hose (Do not turn the screw to puncture the can yet)
4.Insert the other end of the refill hose to the low side valve
5.Puncture the R-134A can with the screw on the refill hose
6.You should feel the system suction the refrigerant out of the can
7.Check for frost on the AC lines and the air blowing inside the truck
8.If frost develops and the air is cold, you've successfully recharged the system and disconnect the refill hose. DO NOT ADD MORE REFRIGERANT...overcharging the system will damage your compressor and will be less effective

I need to retrofit and recharge my 1988 Dodge Ram Ac.


First, the old R-12 must be completely evacuated fromt the system. R-12 and R-134A do not mix and won't function together. Once you are sure there's no R-12 left in the system, you need to install an R-134A fill valve on the low side AC line. This is where your refill hose will connect to add R-134A. Once the valve is in place you're ready to fill the system. The compressor requires a minimum of 20psi to engage and should not be filled to more than 45psi.

RECHARGING AC SYSTEM

1.Turn the truck on and turn AC on HIGH
2.Locate the low side AC line (will have a valve and cap similar to the cap on a tire)
3.Insert the oil or R-134A can to the hose (Do not turn the screw to puncture the can yet)
4.Insert the other end of the refill hose to the low side valve
5.Puncture the R-134A can with the screw on the refill hose
6.You should feel the system suction the refrigerant out of the can
7.Check for frost on the AC lines and the air blowing inside the truck

The air conditioner blows hot air. Is there a way I can test for a leak in the system or does this require a technician? I am thinking it's not a compressor because it is blowing.


Apart from doing a low side pressure check, you can try to recharge the system yourself with a refill kit that's readily available at most auto parts stores. If you're concerned about a leak, also get a can of R-134A with the UV dye that will show any leaking components.

On my 1995 Dodge Ram When I turn the A/C On it dosent seem to kick in and get cold just warm air?


In most cases, the problem is the system is low on refrigerant. The AC compressor requires a minimum of 20psi of refrigerant to turn on. There are refill kits available at the auto parts stores. If doing this yourself, select a kit that includes compressor oil, and a refill hose.

How do I convert or fill 92 Jeep Cherokee air conditioning freon?


If it leaks 134 it will leak R-12 .I have changed hundreds of systems over to 134 without any complaints. Don't let the 94% eff rating of 134a scare you because that does not mean that your ac system will lose 6% cooling ability .A large class 8 truck or maybe a high roof van black on black and poor insulation might tax the system in the 90% range on 100 degree days but most systems never get close .
134a high side pressure will be about 18% higher so most systems you need to change the high side cutout.The R-12 electric fan switch will be ok just make sure it is engageing the fan when the pressure comes up.You must check the condensor in front of radiator to make sure air flows easily thru it.On systems where the hoses screw on each side of the dryer I replace the dryer .Drain oil from compressor and replace with 134a oil .Replace that bad valve core (with ac valve core not a tire valve) Now very very important vaccum the system and if no loss of vaccum in 20 min charge with manufactors recomended amount of oil and freon.If a system is low on freon (cycling in & out on low pressure switch) you can add a pound of charge with those small cans of same type freon no problem but when there is a leak and the charge has been lost or changing freon types you must pull a vaccum to properlly charge the system. If you just charge R-12 or 134a your system will have traped non -condensables and a large drop in cooling ability. Hope this helps. Harold
