Try taking off the door panel, locating the window motor. There is a rectangle piece located to the round piece. Tap on the rectangle area a few times then try rolling up. This is a temporary fix to get it to work, just means you will need a new motor.

bad u-joint would be the first thing to look for if the sound is coming from just one side. when you engage the front axle, you put it under load and it shuts up.

Its the same thing except it says GMC on the front. The most common issues with either of them is ABS problems, wheel bearings, ball joints, intake gaskets, plugged heater cores, injector issues, fuel pressure regulators, fuel pumps, catalytic converters, wiper motors, window motors, 4x4 issues, and the list goes on.

Power window switchs on 1996 gmc jimmy

Inspect or replace the window lock and unlock switch on the drivers door power window switch. There is a lock and unlock switch that will disable the switches to the other power window in the Jimmy. Check to make sure that switch is in the unlock position to have the other power window switch to work.
Thank you for suing fixya and good luck.
