Question about 1996 Jeep Cherokee

1 Answer

My 1996 Jeep Cherokee does not get spark even with a new coil

My 1996 Jeep Cherokee will not start. I have a new battery, a new coil, a new cap and rotor. The fuel pump is definitely working, I know because I took off a fuel line and turned the key. The jeep will turn over but it will not start. There does not appear to be any spark to the plugs.

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand cherokee with the 5.2l v-8 engine. Last week I started it, and it ran for about 1 minute before shutting off. The engine cranks, but no ignition. I replaced the Crankshaft position...

Time to meter voltage. Start with the 12V circuit. Are you getting voltage at the coil. Does the voltage fluctuate when the engine cranks? If yes to both check the high voltage circuit. Start with the coil then the distributor then each plug. You should be able to find where the spark is failing.

I would make sure you have voltage to the coil. Could be a fuse or relay problem. Is the check engine light on when you turn the key on ?

I have a 1996 jeep country that shuts off while driving

some times ...even if you buy new wires ...it will still not run properly ....try and spray water on your wires at night with a trouble light ..to see if any spark is jumping ....if it is ..the wire that is jumping has a problem.... just because they are new doesn't mean they are good ...have had it happen to me ...i always buy life time wires ...more expensive ..but less headaches .....good luck ...
