thx for your suggestions but it looks like cable came out where connected under hood. I can see the end but nothing is moving under hood then pulling latch inside the car :(

  • tgaeng Jul 19, 2009

found the latch. was very hard to reach and hard to move but managed to push it to right which opened top and then pulled 2. latch to completely open hood. Found that release cable had slipped off the latch hook under hood. will try to re-attachtoday during daylight ...

  • tgaeng Jul 19, 2009

managed to re-attach cable to level and tested and it works. nothing was broken - cable had just slipped off. hope it will stay put for a few weeks until cars-for-clunkers is active. Hope this 1995 Buick qualifies and then will purchase new car ...

thanks again for your help !!

If you can reach it that's a plus!!! try getting up there with a can of wd40 or other solvent and spray it. Then have someone pull the release and while its being pulled, give the leading edge of the hood a quick downward bounce and in most cases, it will open.

OK, then make a small hook from a piece of coat hangar and snag the release lever on the latch, then pull it. (lever is near the end of the cable)

Glad you got it open...Knew you would...Some you can't get to at all...those are the really tough ones! Once you get the cable end back in the slot, usually you can just squeeze the ends together a bit and the end won't come out.

Miguel, 1993 Buick century hood cable broke. With a flashlight, you will have to lay under car and reach up where cable runs into latch and pull the latch mechanism/lever to unlatch hood. If not comfortable doing this call a locksmith and they will have it open in seconds. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

There seems to be no way to unlatch the hood release for my 92 buick regal. i have the grill off, but can see nothing at all on how to disengage. i need a diagram of assembly to figure out how this works.

Can you grab the cable with some vise grips and pull on it to open the hood? If not you need to crawl under the front remove the rock guard and look up were the cable is that runs to the hood latch. Once located use a pair of wire cutters and cut the cable as far away from the latch as possible. Once cut try pulling on the plasic covering to see if it will pull off the actual cable. Then pull on the cable and hood should unlatch.

96 buick regal hood cable broken how to open it

If the latch broke under the dash and you can see the cable but it is no longer connected to the latch then grab it with a set of pliers or vice-grips and pull toward the driver's seat, this should release the hood.

I drive a 1991 Buick Park Avenue and I can't get the hood to open on my car. It overheated yesterday and I need to pop the hood to see the problem, but the hood won't come up. I tried the release lever...

I would have someone hold the hood release latch while bumping the front of the hood to try to bump the hood loose. Once opened, be sure to lubricate the hood latch under the hood and also lubericate the safety latch as well to prevent this in the future. Use white lithium grease to lube all latches. Be sure to work the latch a couple dozen times after lubricating a few times before closing the hood to ensure it is working properly.

Hood latch cable is detached from the lever and hood will not open

first, try smacking the hood at one of the front corners while someone else pulls the release handle. or even after you've pulled on it. if that works, once open, adjust and lubricate the hood latch assembly. if it still won't open, and it's the cable and not the latch you'll have to replace it anyway, so instead of removing the grill, cut the cable behind the pull lever under the dash where you can reach it. then skin the outer cable insulation away from the actual steel cable exposing an inch or two of it. then holding the insulation and plastic housing with pliers, grab the steel cable itself with pliers and pull it to open the hood. then replace the cable. the further you can reach up under the panel the better your chances of getting past the broken part of the cable and avoid removing the grill. you might also be able to gain access from up under the car if you're lucky.

My 1990 buick lesabre also has a heater blower problem and I have made it work in the past by pulling apart the connector near the blower under the hood and cleaning the connector. This time I can not open...

try reaching the hood latch mechanism thru the grille, or from under the car behind the front bumper with a long screwdriver or long pliers, or a piece of coat hanger or whatever.

Broken hood release cable how to open hood

you can often release the hood latch from under the car, or through the grille, by reaching up to the hood latch mechanism with a long screwdriver or pliers, or a piece of coat hanger, whichever works in your particular case. G/L
