Why won't 96 grand am start ate being wrecked?

You will have to determine if the vehicle has spark as well as fuel pressure. Pull a plug wire off and ground it over the engine. Crank the engine and it should spark. If spark is ok, you will most likely have a fuel supply issue. You will need to hook a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail test port to determine if pressure is available. If no pressure suspect a fuel pump or power/ground supply issue to it

I have 02 pontiac grand am and it wont start, it cranks over and getting spark and getting fuel, I replaced crank sensor, however i pulled spark plugs and didnt smell gas in the cylinders when someone else...

Attempt to start the car by turning the key to the Start/Run Position.
Observe that the vehicle fails to start and that the security light is illuminated. leave the key in the 'ON/Accessory' Position. (DO NOT turn key to the 'off' position.)
Allow the vehicle to sit with the key in the 'ON/Accessory' Position for no less than 12 minutes.
Turn key to off position and allow the vehicle to remain in the 'OFF' position for no less than 30 seconds. Then start the engine. This worked for me.

Wont crank on frist try

It would help if you were a little more specific with the year, make, model. etc. but usually with the newer fuel injected cars, excessive cranking means that the check valve on the fuel pump at the fuel tank is leaking. When the car sits the pressurized fuel rail at the engine loses its pressure due to the check valve leaking and you must crank the engine several times to build the pressure back up.

My 2004 pontiac grand prix will not start on the first or second try.

Would you describe it as it cranks over normally but takes longer to start than normal especially if the engine is hot and sits for about 15 to 20 minutes before trying to start?

The first thing I would check is the fuel pressure regulator. It will be located on the fuel rail on the drivers front of the engine. It will be a round looking part held into the rail with a snap ring. It will have a small vacuum hose attached to it. Remove the vacuum hose and see if gas comes out of the nipple. If it does than the regulator is bad and will need to be replaced.

Two things happen when the regulators leak like this. the first is that fuel pressure drops. Low fuel pressure makes the fuel easier to boil in a hot engine. Fuel injector need liquid fuel to work properly. the other is that unmetered fuel ends up in the intake essentially flooding the engine. In both cases the engine eill need to be cranked over long enough to clear the flooded condition and for the fuel pump to run long enough to push liquid fuel back into the fuuel rail and restore fuel pressure.

Here's a trick to try next time. Turn the key to the run position (do not turn it all the way to the crank position). Wait 5 seconds and turn the key off then imediately turn the key back to the run position and wait another 5 seconds. Repeat this 3 or 4 times then crank the engine over. If it starts right up every time than you definitely have an issue with fuel pressure bleeding off.

The most common cause is a leaking pressure regulator but it can also be the fuel pump.

20000 grand am won;t start turns over but won;t

Well then if no pressure at fuel rail then go to pump and in line filter as the in line filter might be the main problem but the pump pressure can also be faulty if filter is bad so check it out and let me know how you get on. Ron

Grand Am won't start.

check for spark while cranking
there is a fuel test port under a black cap on the fuel rail press the valve in and see if there is fuel that shoots out. but crank the car a few times first and build fuel pressure. if not the fuel pump is the cause of everything. change the fuel fitler too. clogged fuel filters lead to damaged fuel pumps

Jeep grand cherokee slow to start

THE THINGS YOU MENTIONED WON'T AFFECT CRANK SPEED. YOU'RE BATTERY IS PROBABLY ON THE WAY OUT THE DOOR. LOOK FOR CORROSION AND LEAKING BATTERYLIKE AROUND TERMINALS AND POSTS. BATTERY IS PROBABLY LOW ON CCA'S. NOW IF TALKING ABOUT WON'T START AND TAKES LONG CRANK TIMES IT CAN BE FUEL PUMP LOSING PRESSURE IN FUEL RAIL OR LACK OF FUEL PRESSURE CONSIDERING WHAT YOU MENTIONED. EVAP SOLENOID WILL USUALY SET A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND WONT AFFECT STARTING USUALLY UNLESS YOU HAVE A HUGE VACUUM LEAK
