Hello and thank you for using FixYa!

To replace a timing belt is a big job and should be done by someone who is familiar with that type of work. The entire front of the engine has to come apart so you can get the front timing belt cover off. Once you have the top and lower from timing belt cover off, the belt is now exposed to be replaced. Before removing the belt, make you sure you line up the cams and crank so your at TDC and the marks all line up. Then remove the belt and then you can remove the water pump.

Thanks Jay!

How to replace of water pump of tata indigo tdi

TATA Indica dicor timing belt installing its pretty much the same as this video you will need a timing belt kit as its best to change then at the same time, when doing the pump or timing belt its recommended to change them both this means that the water pump lasts as changing the belt when the pump goes can be expensive. watch video it shows how to remove the timing belt you just need to do the same as well as the pump .you will need a new seal for the pump if the replacement does not come with one.. when the old pump is removed sand down inside were the pump sits just to clean it. and inside if it has a lot of rust. flush the area out with water and leave to dry before fitting the pump . when fitted us a 50/50 mix on the water system.

Trying to find the water pump

On cars that have a timing chain, the water pump is usually mounted on the front of the engine block and is driven by the drive belt. On most cars that have timing belts, the water pump is mounted on the front of the engine as well, but driven by the timing belt and is concealed under the timing belt cover. It is always recommended that the water pump be replaced whenever the timing belt is done because due to variations in timing belt tension, if you reuse the old water pump on a new timing belt, the average life span of the water pump can be measured in weeks. Some folks think that the repair shop is just trying to milk more money out of them, but this is one case where they are right. If you go cheap (and really, the difference in parts is usually after 40-50 USD with about the same amount in additional labor), you will wind up spending the full labor cost of a timing belt job again in a few weeks to replace the pump.

I have a ford escort Zx2 2000 and my water pump is leaking bad I have lost pressure when I hit my gas pedal inorder to replace my gas pump do I have to replace my timing belt as well?

If the water pump is leaking, it needs replacement. Timing belt is replaced at certain mileage intervals . You can have the belt inspected by a garage. The timing belt does not have to be changed to replace the water pump. If a timing belt is changed, then it is standard procedure to change the water pump, since the water pump is removed when replacing the timing belt.

I have a 1998 volkwagon beetle 2.0 that needs a water pump so i buy the water pump install it put everything back together and put water inside then it just spilled out. tried to start it and now the

you should did your home work before removed old water pump most vw engines water pump is part of the timing belt assembly so when time to replace around 80k miles you should order complete timing belt kit which includes water pump with it.
so after you finish up if you didnt try to hard to run engine you may or may not damage any piece from your valve train!!even with all proper parts you have on your hand you still need high cost speciality tools to complete timing belt replacement on that engine recommendetion is tow your vehicle to mechanic shop and let them do it for you it will save you time and money!
good luck!

Water leak at the timing belt cover

Inside the timing belt cover the pulley that the timing belt goes areound other than the crank and the cam is the water pump. You describe the water pump as failed. Remove the belt with the timing belt marks lined up and replce the pump and install a new belt as you reassamble the car and your good to go another 80 thousand miles. Replace the regular belts too and you'll have this area of service qwork all covered and replace the antifreeze mixture while your doing it as pumps don't normally fail until the antifreze is drity and old.

Where is the water pump located on a 1996 olds aurua the car is over heating

Hi, i would check the thermostat first unless the water pump is leaking as the water pump is where the timing belt is is the timing belt needs removing to get to the pump, take the thermostat out and place it in a tub of boiling water and check if it opens up if it dont then it will need replacing.

you need to bare in mind that it could also be head gasket failure so make sure you get this tested if the thermostat is found to be in working order.

let me know if you need further assistance ok

Timing belt/waterpump

usually a good time to change it is at about 100,000 miles. change it before it becomes a must or not ride(type of thing). if your water pump is run by your timing belt, then yes you should change the water pump when you do the timing belt. the tension from the new belt will sooner than later kill the bearing in the old water pump and it will cost you twice to fix it versus the one time fix. when you go in to the shop there should be no additional cost to replace the timing belt because it has to come off to replace the water pump.

Audi a4 1.8 t quattro 2003

Hi

This isn't too bad a job as timing belts and water pumps go, but then I've done so many timing belts and water pumps on so many different vehicles its all just a blur now!!

It is always recommended that if you release the tension from an old timing belt then you should fit a new belt and discard the old one.

I would also urge you not just to fit a timing belt. Buy a whole belt kit. You should change everything the belt touches which runs on a bearing, and apart from the water pump, it will all be included in the belt kit. The water pump is purchased seperately.

If any of the bearing-run components pack up then it will be just as devastating to the engine as a broken timing belt, because the timing will jump several teeth and valves and pistons will collide. The belt may even sheer or snap.

It is for this reason that if I ever get a call out for a routine timing belt change, I always advise the full kit, and the water pump.

It may sound a bit expensive to be replacing items that may not require changing, but if you think its only once every six years or so then its not that bad.

It is also very important to observe the torque settings for the center bolts of any pulley wheels (idlers and tensioner). If you whack them up too tight then the applied forces from the timing belt, instead of being dissipated through the bolt and into the engine, will instead act upon the bolt and it will eventually snap.

Apart from that, the very best of luck with it.

Regards

Geordie
