Question about 1999 Saturn SL

1 Answer

It's my mothers car, I am trying to find out for her, she just had the transmission replaced, now when she tries to start it, it blows a 30 amp fuse under the hood, where the relays are. a friend of hers put copper around the fuse and tried starting it again, sometimes it will start, sometimes it doesn't, acts like its not getting enough juice to roll it over, tried replacing the starter, same problem with different starter. I am pretty sure that it must be an electrical problem, due to the fuse blowing everytime. where can you find the wiring diagram for the ignition system?

Go to the autozone web site at autozone.com and register your vehicle. You will have access to a full online repair manual for your vehicle. It is free and handy. The schematics should be available there. Hope this helped.

you may have a short (verify the integrity of the insulation of the positive wire from that fuse going to the rear window defroster, check the relay & switch.) try to replace the relay.

'99 Ford Crown Vic LX: #12 30A Maxi fuse blows seconds after starting or ignition turned on.

i had this problem with my 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo with the brake lights it kept popping fuses right after the ignition was turned on try putting a higher amp fuse in place of the old one that keeps blowing then check for shorts to the starter and check grounds and wires and also the transmission issue check the fluid and then if the fluid is fine change the transmission filter the filter may have not gotten replaced when the transmission was rebuilt and may be clogged or dirty

30 amp fuse keeps blowing i was able to change it and it would start now it just blows at the turn of my key

If the 30 amp fuse blows there is fault or short within the igntion /fuel pump circuit. You need to check this case by ISOLATION. remove connection of the suspected sections one by one and confirm when the fuse blows as the particular circuit is connected.

My daughter has a 1998 Avenger as soon as the car starts it blows a 30 amp fuse in the engine compartment which is simply marked ENGINE. After this fuse blows the car will not even try to start the lights...

sounds like you have a short in the electrical system between the ignition and the fuse box. it might be metal to metal somewhere inbetween in the wiring that is makeing the fuse blow out everytime

Start by checking for a wire shorting to ground if that checks good you will need to go thru the circuit and check the amp draw at each component, fuel pump, ignition coil, ect. until you find the bad part

30 amp ignition fuse in engine compartment blows at start

It sounds like a bad ignition switch or something is grounding out.Try to isolate the problem to key positions.See if the fuse blows when you turn the key to ACC(when your dash lights come on without starting)If the fuse does not blow then when you go to start it and it blows it could be one of many problems, the more common ones could be ignition switch, wiring, starter relay, starter soleniod,or perhaps the starter itself is shorting out, this can sometimes happen when a starter goes bad.

I have a 1990 Lexus LS400, Keeps blowing the 30a Fusable link

if you smelled smoke you probably have a short you will need to do some more extensive searching to find the burned\shorted wires.

30 amp fuse/ in box under hood

The 30 amp fuse is most likely for your starter. Check that the red thick wire (could be black as well) leading to the starter and starter solenoid is properly attached and is not touching anything that would short it out and therefore blow the 30 amp fuse. The short may even be inside the starter in which case it will need to be replaced or repaired. Hope this helps.
