For OBD 2 there are thing's the cars computer check's for emissions , there called monitors . When these monitors run an set the vehicle will be ready to pass an emission test . Normal driving will set the monitors in time or you could try an speed up the process with a drive cycle
Disconnecting the battery resets the PCM - engine computer ,an the emission monitors . A drive cycle has to be done to get the monitors to run an hopefully set. sounds like a fuel pump . next time the car shuts off on you have someone turn the key just to the on position (not to start the car) and you listen back by the gas tank for a humming noise . if you do not here this it is most likely your fuel pump . if you do here it humming I would change your fuel filter .
Mine took several hard slams to latch, with top up or down. Finally got dealer to adjust the latch which they originally said wasn't possible. Wore grooves into the latch rod while it was out of adustment, but at least now it closes.
The trick to setting all the monitors is:
Make sure you have more than 1/4 tank of fuel but no more than 3/4.
Clear codes then Do Not cycle key off. Start vehicle and drive,make sure you do at least 2 minutes of steady spead between 40-50 mph and at least 2 minutes at 50-65 mph, usually about a 20 to 25 mile drive will set them..
If you turn the ignition off before the monitors complete then EVAP will have to see a 6 hour cold soak before it will attempt to run again.
