Question about 1998 Chevrolet Lumina

1 Answer

I have a 1998 chevy lumina. I was driving it after I had just filled the tank for about 20 min when all of a sudden the car goes completly dead. After a half hour it restarted and died again. Had it towed home and I had the fuel pump changed. Now I will be driving it and it will go completly dead but will restart right away. What could be causing it to shut down completely

I may not be the fuel pump, it will be an ign-module or cam/crank sensor defecting.

My 1998 chevy lumina wont charge new alternator and battery all been test but still wont charge drive about 1 hour and battery light come on any idea

the heavy lead from the back of the alternator goes to the battery. this lead charges the battery and is probably loose or corroded at one end or the other.

98 Chevy Lumina runs for a little and stops.

Have you determined if you are loosing spark or fuel when the engine stops ? Is the check engine light still on ?

Hot light comes on 1998 chevy lumina

Has this happened suddenly? Or over a period of time?
Either way, it sounds from your description as if either the fan/s that assist in forcing air through the vehicle's radiator aren't operating; or, as likely, the radiator core is partially blocked with sludge left over from when the engine was manufactured. Might be worthwhile getting someone to do a cooling system pressure check.
Good luck!

Battery went dead 1998 lumina now radio and lighter won't work

90 % chances you also have a shorted alternator it kills the battery.
I have two Luminas and one Malibu and Corvette (mid/late 1990- 2000's) they have the same problems... suddenly dead batteries
Please check alternator when replacing batery.

I want to know how many gallons that the gas tank holds on a 1998 chevrolet lumina

Your owner's manual will have that info. On '97 Chevy Lumina 3.1 holds 61 litres... according to the manual.

Its possible that you are interesting to get the 1998 Chevroler Lumina - Owners Manual, there mentioned 16.6 gallons...

Good luck (remember rated this post).

My 1998 chevy lumina decelerated from 60 mph to 50 to 40, so I pulled over, and the car would not start since, what is the problem?

this sounds fuel related to me. did the car just all of a sudden start losing power on the highway? i guess it would crank and crank, but not start when you pulled over? have you run out of gas recently or frequently? i would check your fuel filter first, but it sounds like your fuel pump just up and quit on you. that pump is, of course, inside the gas tank. pulling the tank involves 2 straps, 3 fuel lines, and an electrical connector plug. hopefully you were low on gas when it happened. that way the tank is not so heavy and hard to work with.

1998 chevy lumina car. DTC code p0440. I know

You will need to drop the tank if you have a strong gas odor. Rubber line between sending unit and metal pipe is leaking.

its a common myth that sugar in a gas tank can foul up your system. this is false to a major degree. While foriegn objects in your system is not a good thing, the gasoline should break most of the soluable particles, and the others will float to the bottom.
