Are you sure it's e-vac leak or is it e-vap leak ,because the e-vap leak could be as simple as you have not tightened the gas cap enough, and that willturn on the check engine light.

I have a 2005 mercury sable the. check engine light came on. I took it to AutoZone and the readings said it's running lean. Wht does that mean and what could be the cause?

It means that the engine is running lean which can cause engine knock. When the knock sensors detect excessive knock they set the check engine light.
Low fuel pressure.
Dirty fuel filter.
Dirty or bad MAF sensor.
Bad MAP sensor.
Vacuum leak.

Bad injector.

After startup up engine seems to fire incorrectly...this lasts about 5 minutes then clears up n runs normal...ecm codes 173, 556...replaced parts n still doing

the 173 is a transmission code, the 556 is a bad brake booster pressure sensor.
a vacuum leak from the booster can cause engine to run poorly.

Reason for loss power up hills 1994 f150 5.0 liter

sounds like either a vacuum leak (check the bottom of the "tomatoe juice can" for starters) or a bad or plugged egr valve or egr solenoid.
check engine lite refers to emissions probs only...most likely egr or vac leak. Had the same prob on my 95 5.0 f150...needed new can and egr valve.

Engine lite comes on when driving then engine starts running rough especially @ idle, also /pwr brake vaccum system works interrmitantly. normal pedal then hard pedal like theres no pwr assit...

A strong suspect is a vacuum leak in the system.
If it is an emissions related leak the engine light will also come on.
The power brakes can also be affected by a leak.

With the engine light on, it stores a failure code. If you take the car to a mechanic he can use a code reader to determine where the failure is ocurring, helping to isolate where the leak might be. They typically have a few tricks for finding vac leaks.

If you are a do it yourselfer, you can borrow a code reader at Schucks to reveal the failure as well. Then the work begins to troubleshoot and track down the leak, most often a cracked hose.

Good luck.

Transmission fluid is low with no leak. Where is the fluid going?

I would rec putting a flor dye in trans fluid which you can by at Autozone and using a UV light also you can purchase an inexpoensive one from Autozone to check for external leaks first. Otherwise sometimes fluid can be burned off or sucked through vac ports and burned in engine. If you notice excessive smoke then that could be the cause.

2003 4.0 V6 explorer with the vacume line off the egr it runs, but runs rough. when the vacume line is hooked up to the egr it cuts off. i put a new egr on and it did the same thing please asap..

First. Check the vacum routing from the egr. facing the engine, the vac.
line should go to the right and connect to the egr vacum regulator
solenoid. The line from the solenoid to manifold vacum. The solenoid
is also connected to the powertrain ctrl. module And some models,
have a egr sensor. the two vac.lines from the sensor(if equipped)go to
the exaust below the egr valve. The three wires from the sensor go to the pcm. At this I would plug in the obd2 scanner if no vac.leaks or
bad connections have been found. This can narrow the field greatly.
You can stop by an autozone/napa etc. they will scan it for free.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

1998 ford explorer with lack of power engine starts but rattles whole car at start and while driving down the road

I would check for vacume leaks in the engine area listen for air sucking like a vacume ...You can spray a small amount of throttle body cleaner on vac lines and the motor will rev up or bogg down that is a leak and need to fix all vac leaks ........If check engine light is on have your codes checked ....hope this helps

The code indicates a lean error code. Can carburater be adjusted to run more rich to turn off check engine light?

NO. it willneed to be checked by a qualified repair shop, there are a lot of reasons it could be lean but a shop will have the tools and knowhow to diagnose your problem. anywhere from fuel pressure, to a vac leak, to a MAF sensor problem. but guessing at this would not help, and when guessing I dont want you to spend any money you dont need to on unnecessary parts.

Runs rough right after starting. runs rough for about 20 seconds and then runs fine after that.

try cleaning ur intake with throttle boby cleaner, an run some injecter cleaner through ur gas tank or use seafoam... (great stuff is seafoam).
if prob. persist check for vac. leak (u can replace all vac hoses for around $20-$25 bucks)
these 2 things should clear it up and r good things to do anyways weather it acually fixes it or not.
if thos dont work check ur sensors (tps, ias) u can go get a free check engine serv. done at autozone then ref. the codes to figure it out or let me know.
good luck and good jeepin
