White smoke is a blown head gasket, the engine has to come half apart, it's not a cheap fix. If it's a high milage car I wouldn't.( it'll possibly cost you over $1500.00 to fix)

The problem could also be a cracked block or cracked head. First check the compression on all 4 cylinders. There should be not more than 10% difference from cylinder to cylinder. Also check for oil in your anti-freeze and antifreeze in your oil. If the compression is bad and/or there are fluids mixing, the only way to determine if it is the head, the head gasket, or the block is to take the head off. If it is the head or the block, you could buy a good used motor, or just sell it for parts.

I have a 2002 Hyundai accent and when I take off after the car has been idling white smoke comes out the exhaust and the engine ticks sometimes when it smokes. What causes this?

White smoke is usually a sign of a coolant leak into the combustin chamber unless it is just a little bit on a cold day. Check your coolant level when the car is cold and see it you are low on coolant.

How fix the problem of white smoke from hyundai accent

White smoke is usually indicative of unburied fuel. Have injectors checked and cleaned. Easiest solution, run some injector cleaner with half a tank of gas, then when that is gone put in a half tank of high grade fuel and run that. If you still have the problem then it may be time for new injectors.

Fix seized engine

White smoke is an indication of water in the engine. Like when you see a car with white smoke from the exhaust on a cold morning, it's heat moisture condensate in the exhaust (normal), and is being heated and converted to steam as the engine blows hot exhaust out. To test if it's water in the engine, there are two likely indications, (1) the motor oil will be milky and white, or (2) you can remove the spark plug and see if any cylinder sprays water mist when the engine is turned over. In either case the problem is a bad gasket, maybe head gasket (repairable), or a cracked block (big $$$ fix). If engine will not turn over, there could be two causes (assuming the battery and starting system is good); (1) a cylinder is full of water and hydraulically locked keeping the engine from turning over (removing spark plugs should relieve the pressure and allow you to turn the engine over (* you'll see mist or water coming out spark plug holes), or (2) the engine is seized, therefore the previous troubleshooting is unnecessary, engine replacement is necessary. Best of luck resolving this problem.

more than likely the valve seals.
try using 5w40 or a additive for anti smoke and see if that helps.or remove the cylinder head and get it redone.

I have a 1998 hyundai excel running rough as if only on 2 or 3 cylinders starts 1st time but running realy bad and blows heaps of white smoke I can drive it and you can feel it not running on all cylinders...

Is the heaps of white smoke come out of the tail pipe LONG AFTER the 15 minutes period?
To pin point a blowing headgasket you will need
1)coolant system compression tester
or
2)chemical reaction test for combustion test gas
If it's the org. engine from 1998,with over 120,000 then blown headgasket is a good possiblity.
Tow it to the shop and let the pro to do the coolant pressure test and combustion gas test.
A full head gasket job with head re-surface (if it can be re-use) is worth it.
Shop around on well estiblished independent shops.

I have a 2007 Hyundai Accent and white smoke at startup and now severe white smoke on occasion when driving. 16k miles, I drive about 600 miles a month.

White smoke during startup is indicative of a blown head gasket and/or cracked cylinder head..
Have the cylinders pressure tested to verify.
Do not use engine additives to try and stop the leak. They do not work.

Thanks for using FixYa - please accept this answer to remove it from the work queue.

If the water tends to keep going down then there has to be a leak somewhere. Try also looking at the hose coming from the overflow tank and see if the hose might be kinked. You might also be blowing antifreeze out the tailpipe. Take a look and if there is bluish white smoke then you have confirmed that theory,
