It sounds like the alternator or voltage regulator. Take it to an autoparts store and have the alternator tested. Most stores offer this as a free service. Hope this helped.

It sound's like the alternator, that's the main thing that will turn on the battery light in the dash.

95 Cadillac sts will not hold charge, new battery new alternator?

What's the voltage reading at the battery with the engine running ? 13 to 14.1 volts ? If not, it's not charging .Sounds to me like it's not charging ! Is there battery voltage at the heavier gage wire on the back of the alternator ? Does the battery symbol light on the dash work ?

305 engine --The volts gage is dropping-- HELP

The gauge could be wrong,it could be defective, have the alternator checked,at the battery,it should read from 13.65 volts to 14.25 volts with the head lights on,and the ac blower on high, with the engine running. If the alternator is new, check for 12 volts at the back of the alternator with engine off,if there is not 12 volts on the large wire,on the alternator, then the circuit is broken somewhere.Just install a new wire,of equal or larger size.Leave the original wire on the alternator, and just add a new wire, larger would be better if possible, and run it from the alternator,to the positive side of the battery,it will fix the problem.

you have a voltage drop.fine the damaged wire going fro mthe positive terminal of your battery to your alternator.fix this or it will keep working the alternator and draining your battery.

I have a 1993 nissan that burns an alternator once a year,i have just replaced it three weeks ago and now the battery lights come on and the belt squeaks when it first starts up

Hmmmm I wonder if you are aware that alternators have power rating?

Be sure that the alternator rating is not the same with that of your battery. If alternator is 60Amps then Battery should be 75Amps.

Check both battery and alternator.

Good luck and remember to rate my solution.

Electrical???

Since you've checked your voltage at the battery and alternator and they are ok, I would say it seems like an electrical issue. You need to put the truck on a diagnostic scanner to see what part (electrical part) is malfunctioninig.
