Question about 1997 Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

I need to disconnect the burglar alarm on my Jetta. It engages not only when I lock my vehicle, but also when I unlock it, preventing me from getting in or out of my vehicle. I'm wondering if there is a way of just disconnecting the system to prevent further embarassment in parking lots.Thank you!!!

Here's a whole page about the alarm on the MKIII VW (1993-1999)
If you scroll down there's a link for bypassing your alarm.

Jetta alarm

There are a few possible problems which may cause this. A bad wiring in one of the components that are part of the alarm system. (door locks, hood, trunk, radio and ignition).
Try checking the main wiring harness to each door, they are protected by a rubber boot that is in the vehicle body along the door frame close to door hinges. Common for wires breaking and causing this. A defective radio may cause this problem also,. Another is the hood / trunk switches or wiring.

1998 Vw Jetta opened door with Key alarm sounded cant shut off

I had the same problem. I had lost the wiring connection between the drivers door lock (where the key goes in) and the alarm. The only way to fix this was to rewire the connection.

I am not 100% sure what breaks the connection - probably wear and tear on the wire with the door opening and closing.

This has happened to me twice in the last 5 years.

Alarm won't go off

One of your door latches may be bad. Open the drivers door and arm the alarm with remote, Does your alarm honk once? If it does that door latch is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Alarm

My Jetta has done this before. I get back in the car and somehow the alarm starts going off. I've always just used my keyfob to first lock and then unlock the doors again and it goes off. Hope this works for you!

1999 Volkswagon Jetta Alarm System

I also have a 99 Jetta and I ran into this problem once or twice. How long do you wait in your car after closing the door before trying to turn it on? I've found that the car sometimes will automatically lock itself and engage the alarm system if you are inside of it for over 30 seconds without making an attempt to start it. When this happened to me, I would hit the unlock button on my keyfab twice and then attempt to start the car. Lemme know if this works for you!
