Check voltage at the Primary Coil positive side. With key on it should be above 12volts. If you have power there I would check resistence across your primary and secondary coils. Primary is 0.3 to 0.6 ohms. Check from negative to positive. Secondary is 9 to 15 kOhms. Check from positive on Primary to the high tension terminal, its the one sticking out of the plastic at the top of the coil. Hope this helps.

If there is spark with a jumper battery connected, you need a new battery. If no spark with a jumper battery connected, you need a new ignition module.

Crank shaft sensor, 99' taurus

If the crank sensor is bad you will not get any spark. The PCM does not know the engine is turning with no crank sensor signal so it it does nothing.

What else is it doing?

Engine not firing on # 3 cylinder

Spark plug or coil likely problem. Might put a spark plug in the #3 wire and crank it over and see if it sparks. Plug will need to be grounded and someone to watch or crank engine for you. Leave original plug in hole while doing this. If you have a timing light. Attach it to the wire with it plugged to the original spark plug and start engine. If the light flashes the the coil and wire has power. If no light then more likely a coil. Depends on year of auto as well. Most of the newer ones have a coil for each plug. If its a older one... likely a plug or plug wire.

Lancer timing

-Try one more time. When pull out the plug, make sure ground it.
If there is spark shown. It could be the rotor point to the wrong cylinder plug wire.

My 1991 oldsmobile eighty eight royale keeps dying when i drive it, I have replaced ing control moduel, fuel pump, mass air flow , cam shaft sensor, timing chain, plugs wires ect. do i need to keep...

With that much already invested, why give up now? How about the crank position sensor-was that replaced as well? For spark control and spark timing, the computer needs inputs from both the cam position sensor and the crank position sensor before it can know when to cut power to the coils for spark to occur.
Before proceeding any further, you should check for diagnostic trouble codes. You would need an OBD 1 type code reader or scanner for your olds. Any stored codes may help you find the problem.
You can test the ignition system by checking for spark on a spark plug wire when the engine is cranking over. Pull the plug wire off a spark plug and put in a clean spark plug into the wire. Lay the plug so the threads are touching metal on the engine somewhere. Have someone crank the engine over and watch for a spark from the spark plug. If you have a blue, snapping spark when cranking, ignition is good.
One last note: since it dies when driving, there is a possibility that you have a malfunction in the pcm-the computer.

1996 grand marquis will not start

will it crank at all? if its cranking there are three main things that make an engine run... fuel, air, spark. check spark by pulling a plug and keeping it plugged into the wire and holding the threaded part of the plug to a good ground(any bare metal on your engine will work) hold the spark plug wire boot with a pair of insulated pliers or a pair of gloves while doing this! have someone crank the engine while you do this. if you have spark you should see it jumping from the plug through the gap. if you are getting spark then check fuel delivery by cranking engine for a few long seconds then pulling a plug to see if it is wet with gas. i hope this helps

multiple factors at play.check for spark ,pull a spark plug out and connect the spark plug wire back on the spark plug and place the plug on any ground just sitting over any metal part of engine ,try to place it somewhere visible from inside the car. crank engine and look for spark at the plug,(make sure nobody is touching it when you crank motor)ifyou have spark then is your fuel supply(fuel pump).make sure all fuses and relays are ok b-4 you take any further action.

Moms van

Hello, I'll need some more info, when u turn the key to start the van, the engine turns over (this is the same thing as cranks over, or cranks) but it won't start. Do I understand it correctly? If this is the case, u must check to see if u have spark at the spark plugs, if u do u must then check to see if gas is reaching the plugs. Those are the 2 main requirements of an engine running, spark and gas. The easiest way to check for spark, is to purchase one spark plug for your van, remove one spark plug wire by pushing in, while twisting, then pull out while twisting the wire ( hold the wire as close to the spark plug as possible so u won't damage the wire). Connect the new plug to the spark plug wire, place it on a metal surface, turn the key to crank the engine over (do NOT hold the plug while turning key on!!) , watch the tip of the plug for spark. Do this out of the sun, and it will be very obvious if u have spark at the plug or not. Let me know what u find.
