Subaru has common problem with overheat due to head gasket leak. as long as it doesn't have a problem with Overheat, it will run fine. If there is a problem with overheat, then you need a head gasket replacement. The cost is somewhere around $900 due to other things associated resurface block and valves job.

Depend on the year, you can check Blue book used car on the model you want to have a range of price, then take a look of the one you intend to buy then deduct it for what you think is fair.

The year is making a diiference: For example The DOHC ( dual over head cam), used in the Outbacks from 96/97 to 99 famous for internal head gasket leaks. Thee leaks only opened up when the engine was hot, letting bubbles of exhaust enter the coolant. These bubbles impede the flow of coolant, create hot spots, and eventually will cause the car to overheat) It is difficult to fine this until the car had a blown head gasket. After 99 Subaru designs with a new SOHC system (single overhead cam) and it remains until today. However it is still famous for external leaks (that is, they leaked coolant out of the engine and onto the outside of the block).

Therefore you need to check head gasket when you buy it.

The manual vs. standard price is much different only on new carsr depended on trim model. But it should not be much difference in used car since the value now is depend on the mileage providing the same engine on the car ( ex 4 cylinders). You can use plus or minus $200 is the max. Hope this can help.

My 2017 Subaru Outback with just 666 miles on it had a dead battery twice in two days. What is the problem?

Have dealer repair this. One of your electrical circuits is not turning off and draining the battery after you remove the key or turn off the ignition.

I have a 2002 outback 2.5 L Standard transmission. 140K miles . After I have driven the car for an hour or so, if I turn the wheel in either direction, the steering wheel shakes and I fell a thunk, thunk...

Possibly a bad strut alowing the tire to bounce that is only happening under certain driving conditions. May also have the tires checked, one may have a fat spot or knot on it that worsens as the tire gets warmer after driving it for a while. Hope this inforamtion is useful to you. Good Luck!

2000 Subaru Outback Wagon (100K miles) with P0420 Code

I do not know for sure if this is the problem you are having, But, I have noticed that from 95 up to 2002 I have seen a lot of PO420 codes that have been just the sensor. I do not know if it was a weak sensor or just that program telling it that it is below threshold. I did notice that if the vehicles are run for a long trip at highway speed it goes out. I wish you luck and have a great day.

I am looking at buying a 200 Subaru Outback

Thats not many miles for a Subaru. The only thing that really ever seems to cause problems with Subaru motors is the Head gaskets. But, with proper maintanance they last a long time. If caught at first sign of trouble repair is not alot of money. I have 3 Subaru's with over 200000 on them and I will take them against anything. Maintance is the key to repair problems. Subaru parts are not expensive and easily available. It will probobly be another story of buying a Subaru and never buying another car other than that. Good luck and have a great day.
