How can I repair the cv boot which has a small hole on top while on the axle?

Oil is coming out of the boot near the clamp. Could I remove the clamp and cut in the grove where the small hole is... then bring the boot down some and replace the clamp back on the boot?

You can try but there is a good chance the boot will pullout. Replacement boots are available for many makes...but you will need to pull the axle out in order to slide a new boot on.

How do I take an axle boot off

you mean the cv joint boot? It has to be removed from the car first. then its easy: held on by metal clamps, one on the small end of boot around the half axle, and one on the big end of boot around cv housing. Are you replacing the boot? then just cut the metal clamp with snips or a hacksaw. If you are trying to replace boot with it on the car (like those replacement boots that are split and use a glue to seal the split after wrapping it around the axle-really only a temporary fix, and not recommended cause they often don't hold up), anyway just cut the clamps. Be advised that cv clamps require a special tool to tighten them properly. Of course once you get the boot on, you could take it to a shop to have the clamps set properly.

Can i make a small cut on the rubber of the cv halfshaft? i need to spray some wd40 in there as it seems to be squeaking a lot.

Absolutely not. Cv axles require grease, not oil. Oil is much too thin and would not help lubricate the joint at all. Any hole in the boot would cause grease to come out of it while spinning. If the cv joint is making noise the ONLY way to repair it is to rebuild or replace the joint.

CV axle removal 1999 Isuzu Trooper

The easy way is to take the inner boot off and take the joint apart. Take new cv axle apart at inner joint and attach to the old one sticking out of axle housing. You will need to get new boot clamp.

Replace cv joint rubber boot on front near side, ranger rover L322 4.4HSE

If the boot is torn it is a good possibility that the shaft may need to be changed. Auto zone and schucks sell aftermarket boots that are called split boots so you don't have to remove the axle. other wise if you buy a new boot you will have to remove the hub cap break the nut loose on the axle then jack up that side and remove the tire remove the brake caliper remove the lower control arm remove the lower ball joint out of the ball joint then force the shaft of the ball joint out of it,s socket pull axle assembly away from the axle and force axle out then remove the old clamps then remove the boot. If it is the outer that's all you need to do if it's the inner boot which some models have then the axle has to be removed from the trans-axle. Be sure to clean the Area where the new boot goes on and clean the U-joint that the boot it covers, when you buy a new boot they should supply you with new grease if they do be sure to pack the grease in the u-joint then install the boot making sure the boot slips into the groove of the axle and slip clamp on and hook it in the spot and bend it forward then bend the tabs over that hold the clamp in place. Be sure where the boot fits it is clean or you will not get it tight enough and it will come off..

I have a 1999 isuzu 4wd rodeo 6 cylinder and was wondering if Need to install a new boot kit or if I need to replace the entire front left cv axle shaft. I had a tear in my rubber boot and noted some...

Do not try to get the cv axle out ot the axle housing. It is a major operation. Remove boot and disconnect the inner cv joint and save about five hours of time. The choice is yours ,boot or reman cv axle. You will need to take the reman. axle apart to install it though and some new clamps. Not a simple operation.
