Question about 2003 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

Fuel gauge, odometer, tachometer problems

The fuel gauge has suddenly stopped working(hand lays below empty), and the low fuel light stays on(just filled the tank 2 days before). Also the odometer reads all zeros, and the tachometer jumps oddly while driving. It stays in the general area it should for the speed I'm driving, but jumps up several hundred RPM's like it's got a nervous tick or something. Got no warning about the problem. Car runs well and was fine the night before, and this all happened the next day when I started it. Thought maybe it was a fuse, but the low fuel light wouldn't be on then. My Camry is a 4cyl. LE, has 160,000 miles on it, and has been well maintained. Had No problems with it until now.

Fuel gauge could be bad .Depending on make , model and year vehicle ! The instrument cluster would need to be pull from the vehicle and sent out to be fixed or buy a new one .

Honda Pilot 2004 Car battery died because we left the lights on. Jumped battery. Works great but NOW the fuel gauge and hot/cold gauge is not registering. The fuel gauge needle just stays past Empty and...

Check fuse No. 9 (10A) in the driver's side kick panel fuse box. But if your other gauges are working (speedometer, tachometer, low oil light, etc.) then it is possible that when you jumped the battery you inadvertently reversed the cables and created a reverse voltage. This will impact some of the vehicle electronics. If you feel this might be the case, you should test the cooling system temperature sender to see if it failed. If it did, you should suspect that the fuel gauge drive circuit located in the instrument cluster is also failed.

Low fuel light stays on. gas gauge is inaccurate

It could be a couple things, fuel pump or your fuel float inside the tank is going. Best best depending on what you want to spend. Call a junkyard for a replacement or a scrap yard/ salvage parts.
You may want to also put a large carboard box under the car (laying flat) to see if the gas tank is leaking too.

My 2000 gmc fuel gauge will sometimes go from full to empty causing the low fuel light to come on. Also it does not ever go below 1/2 tank mark.

needs the fuel pump assembly....gauge sender is incorporated in this module...pretty expensive but the only alternative is to fill it up and reset your trip odometer each time...you should be good for 250 miles or better before next fill up!! good luck!

Gas gauge for 1983 nissan truck died

it is unlikely to be the fuel gauge, look instead to the sending unit. a wire probably is loose or corroded, if you know about how much fuel you should have, then remove the negative cable from the battery and do a ohms test on the sending unit. (low ohms w/ full tank= good, high ohms w/ low fuel= good). DO NOT attempt this with the battery connected as it could FRY your meter or risk fire.
