My 1999 Cirrus had a problem with the key would go in and out but would not turn. A mobile locksmith came by and took the ignition cylinder out in under 5 minutes. He then replaced the wafers (tumblers) in there fairly quick. If the key is stuck it may take some more effort but getting the cylinder itself out should be easy. No need to remove the steering wheel.

I have a 96 Chrysler Cirrus lX its starts up but turn right off what could it be,?

if it starts and runs while you have the key in the start position but stops when the key returns to the run position it is probably a faulty ignition switch that is breaking the run circuit in the switch

You might need to actually insert the key into the ignition and turn to on, run or even start. Good luck!

Check engine light

Code 12.................Problem with the battery connection. Direct battery input to PCM disconnected within the last 50 ignition key-on cycles.

either a loose connection or the battery dead or removed within 50 last times you turned on the car, check battery terminals for corrosion or loose connector, and check the earth wire for corrosion, the code will dissapear by itself if the power is not removed again
