There is a separate plug for the speakers, if you are replacing a non factory radio then maybe these speaker cables were re-routed to an amp. or something?

Call your local Mercury or Ford dealer parts department and they will provide you the security unlock code over the phone. Also try looking in the glove box for the original radio code decal, it might still be in there or look in the owners manual for the stereo code written down in the front or back of the book.
Pull the radio out and record the model number and the serial number off the radio chassis, along with your VIN number and the radio numbers go to your local Ford dealer and ask them nicely to look up your theft deterrent code for your radio, most will do it for free.
