My 2001 Durango has power surges at around 35 to

My 2001 Durango my rpm surges from 1000 up to 1500 and 2000
at around 35 to 40 mph. What can cause this?

    there could be many things causing this. sounds like your torque converter is going in and out of lockup. could be caused by a bad throttle position sensor. there are a lot of different variables telling your trans to shift and lock the torque converter. hope this helps

You need a new throttle position sensor.....about 60 bucks plus labour

This engine has a surge; AT 35-45mph,it's a bit more prounounced, not as bad, but still there at 60mph. As the tach goes up some, then down, so does the motor, up then back down, etc.Any ideas?

Thats gonna be tough since you would need to know exactly what gear the trans is in to figure speed based off rpm I would suggest just repairing the speedo or vehicle speed sensor which ever has failed

That is a typical RPM at that speed for most 6-speed 4 cylinder engines. The reason for this is that they have a much lower power output at lower RPMs (due to lack of torque), and the engineers want for you to have SOME acceleration to get up little hills.

How many rpm should a automatic 2001 dodge durango shift gears at.


There is no set shift point on any vehicle

If you hold the gas down longer or further
the shifts come later

Only the torque converter clutch lock-up
comes on at about 42 MPH, under even throttle
in high gear

your transmission is in safe mode this will need to be scand to see where the problom is in the transmission

STUMBLES AT 1500 RPM IN ALL GEARS


most likely its the T.P.S. throuttle position sensor. i got a 2001 durango it did samething and that fix it. won't hert to put the plugs in too.

2000 Volvo S40


one unit that operates ratio changes and is connected to the engine is that vacuum operated actuator on the transmission
it is possible that that unit is failing , vacuum hose is leaking and that will cause ratio changes as the vacuum varies
run the fault codes to check for wiring problems or VSS or TCM problems as well
