Idle Air control valve. these tend to go bad due to a lot of carbon build up on the pintle seat. This unit is attached to the throttle body behind the throttle plate. Your basically gonna wanna clean that throttle body body out with some throttle body cleaner, soft brush like an old tooth brush, and a rag or two.

I have a 1999 2.2 s10 that is idling rough. It seams to have a little less power. Once warm seams to be fine? I think it was over heated? I cannot take the radiator cap off it is a sealed system.

The generic info for a rough idle on any vehicle is to check for a leak of some kind, fuel--egr--vacuum, something of that nature. Also,Clean the throttle body and idle air system.
How long since a tune-up? Anymore 02 sensors are part of a tune-up. Any applicable trouble codes?
There are two things I can think of that could be temp related. One is going from open loop control to closed loop control, the other could be coolant temp sensor issue? Don't replace anything unless your testing points in that direction.
There could be other issues?

Sputtering and rough idle

you may also want to check the idle air control and the mass air control sensor, if not working properly they can cause both symptoms

Rough idiling, stalls when putting in2 drive, sluggish,

Sounds like a misfire or a bad valve. If this isn't what your looking for please let me know. The more information and details, the better. The vehicles maintenance history, "Engine Light" status (on or off), what tests you have run, and anything that you have noticed. Rough idle issues can be caused by more than one type of failure. Examples: clogged fuel or air filter, stuck/damaged EGR valve, restriction inside exhaust, spark plugs, timing, or low fuel pressure. There are more examples but it would be better if you could tell me more. Good luck.

Try using a spray bottle of water on the engine seams when the engine is running. If there is an air leak, it will draw the water into the leak and change the rpm verifying the problem.

The lean code 171 means there is more air than normal, generally not that there is less fuel than normal.

Some of these engines use Manifold runners and each side has one. They are like shutters and slide open and closed to route air inside the manifold chambers. They can stick and cause some of the problems you have.

Also as there is a convenient test port for the fuel pump pressure. It would not hurt to see how the pressure is at the RPM of 40-60mph. Some autoparts stores have tool loaner programs.

I would also try to test the engines' role for your shakes by shifting the trans into neutral and allowing the engine to return to base idle. If the shakes continue and do not lose intensity, there are other causes besides the motor.

Please rate my info.

1983 s10 blazer low rough idle and trys to die when starting have to give it a little gas and put it into drive real quick then when slowing down keep foot on gas pedal as i also slow down with break pedal

Could be several things, a vac leak, dirty throttle body, or faulty idle air control valve.
The computer controls idle speed by how much air enters the throttle body thru the valve.
Usually a vac leak would speed up the engine unless it is causing the rough idle.

There are many things that can cause an engine to die. The first thing you need to do is to find out what went away that caused it to die. Did it lose spark? did it lose fuel? Did the idle air control shut down and cut off the air flow? Is it losing electrical power? If so, which circuits are being affected? Are there any fault codes stored in the onboard engine computer?

...lots of variables here. Need lots more information to pinpoint the cause.

My path finder only reaches 100 kilometeres per hour and drives real sluggish, what is most likely to be the problem?

Dose it run on all cylinders or run rough when idling or jerking when taking off or engine getting hotter than it used to, when going from gear to gear dose it pull as good as before,do you use any oil in 1000 km's or coolant ,dose the exhaust blow black smoke or blue smoke .
IS IT A DIESEL as all these things come in to it plus air filter bunged up ,air leak in intake manifols ,fuel filter or fuel pump needs checking and or replacing ,.
Without seeing it we can only say what it could be.
So let me know how you get on.

Ford ranger is running rough!

First Change the pluggs ( I really like the bosch platinum plus 2's ) wires and distributor with rotor if you have one. Next make sure the air filter is good, then take some carb cleaner and spray clean your throtle body till it is very clean. (at your own risk) try a product called SEAFOAM, you can watch on UTUBE how to use it. Also being that is a 1990 there could be some compression problems. get a tester and go to each plug whole and verify that your compression is good. I have heard people getting really good results from Marvel's mystery oil, and doing a soak of the pistons over night. You can look that up online aswell, I am assuming only that you have the ford 2.9 V6. It was never a power house to start with, but using a synthetic oil can help. Also when is the last time you changed the fluid and or filter in your transmission, using royal purple and a good filter can make a big difference in power distribution. change the fluid in the rear also.

Try this and let me know.
