2006 Chev Colbat Key/steering Lock

My daughter just purchased a 2006 Cobalt...got it home, couldn't get the key out. Took it back to the auto lot/seller....he got it working so the key comes out but the steering wheel lock doesn't work. You can turn the steering wheel freely in either direction

Is the steering lock a anti theft feature, is it really needed or should this be fixed, and if so, how?

Thanks

The steering lock needs to be repaced.Take it back and have them to change it for you.As they sold it to you faulty.

I have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt. the key is stuck in the ignition and will not turn all the way back, it has been like this for 2 days now. my battery is dead and there is no spare key. i took it to the dealer...

Your ignition switch is stuck. Listen, go back to your car and try moving the steering wheel left and right, back and forth. As you are doing this, try to get your key unlocked from the switch. Sometimes you can get them out this way. Otherwise, you might have to take it out the hard way. Try it and write me back. Let me know if it works. If not, I can guide you through the steps.

My 2006 Chevy Cobalt steering wheel has locked and i dont know how to unlock it. I can't even turn the key when i put it in the ignition

sounds like your steering column lock is binding you need to slightly turn the steering one way or the other while turning the key at the same time. this happens if the steering wheel is turned after removing the key. or when parked against a curb.

under the steering column right behind the steering wheel is a rubber cover that will pull right out, stick your finger up in the hole and u will feel a pin, push it toward the pass side and turn the key back to the off posision and it will come out

2006 Chevy Cobalt - key stuck in ignition;car has basically gone into shutdown mode. Any clue as to what this issue might be?

Went thru this with the neighbor. At the 6:00 position under the column is a plastic panel. Remove it with small screwdriver. Using index finger , press on white plastic button. This releases switch and allows you to remove key. Replace plastic panel.

Can't remove key

I have not had this issue on my Cobalt, but I did encounter it on my 1997 Chevy Blazer.

There is a shift lock interchange that doesn't allow the car to shift unless the brake pedal is pressed in, and won't allow the ignition to be turned fully off if the car is not in park.

To remove my key I used to shift from Park to Drive repeatedly attempting to get the switch to lock in place. While it was very annoying, it eventually worked and the key was able to come out.
