Nissan made good engines, but it is an 87. High miles I would guess. I would definitely use an oil additive to it.

Nissan Wingroad Y12. Any one has knowledge of Wingroad Y12 decreasing engine oil as I use Amsoil 0W30. As it covered only 100,000. No oil leaks has been found.

It is the wrong oil. Too thin when cold.

The numbers refer to the weight and thickness, or viscosity, of the oil. Motor oil gets thicker when it's cold and thinner when it heats up. The first number indicates the viscosity of the oil at a cold temperature, and the second number indicates the viscosity at operating temperatures.

What type of oil does my 1997 nissan maxima needs. It has aound 200,000 miles on it

It needs the same oil weight as when it was new. You can consider a high mileage blend, by casteroil, it is semi synthetic, and I have observed several oil consuming vehicles, comsume considerably LESS, using high mileage blend.

Old school thinking said to increase the weight of oil as the enging gets older, but that proved MORE DAMAGING. In terms of 5w or 10w, that is less of a concern, but you would not want a larger big number. I mean 5w 20, do not go higher than the 20, or wreck engine sooner.

The correct weight for your car should be on the fill cap or close by.

What type of motor oil should i use?

A stock 2000 Maxima engine is non-turbo and 5W30 oil is recommended by nissan. As the mileage on the engine increases, you should switch to a heavier weight oil, like 10W40.

I changed the oil on my 2008 nissan sentra 2.0

You should use the viscosity oil recommended in your owner's manual. Using a heavier weight oil can affect your fuel economy. If you overfilled the engine with oil, drain out a quart. Overfilling with oil will cause the oil to 'foam', and if this happens, you are not getting proper lubrication of components, which can result in damage to your engine.

Oil change

The manuel should tell you what weight of oil to use, IE 10w-30. If you are asking what brand to use, it really does not matter what brand. Many of the different brands are all actually produced from the same company with different labels on them. The laws that oil companies must follow when producing oil are very strict so one brand of oil is not really different from the other. The differences are so small that there would be no noticable affect on your vehicle. It is the same with fuel as well. One brand of fuel is not any different from the other and unless you have a very high performance engine if your vehicle, the difference between low octane and high octane will not be noticable
As far as the type of oil to use, you have oil, partial synthetic oil, and full synthetic oil. Full synthetic is the best.
I would go with full synthetic with what ever the reccomended weight is for your vehicle. Many cars now have what type of weight to use on the oil cap.
