Question about 2006 Dodge Stratus

Oil leak - looks to be crankshaft or camshaft issue

My stepson purchased a used 2005 Dodge Stratus 2.4 DOHC in 11/08. He has maintained normal oil changes since he has purchased it. A few weeks ago he experienced a major oil leak. He and a neighbor took of the oil pan and found a thin semi circular metal gasket or seal in the oil pan. About 4" diameter. The are assuming it is part of the crankshaft bearing or seal. Can these parts be replaced or is it time for a new enging? The car has about 60,000, which to me seems like it should be too soon for major engine damage on a 3-4 year old car. Any advice would be appriciated.

How to set timing on 2006 dodge stratus sxt 2.4l ?

  1. Set the crankshaft sprocket at TDC by aligning the sprocket with the arrow on the oil pump housing.
  2. Set the camshafts timing marks so that the exhaust camshaft sprocket is a 1 / 2 notch below the intake camshaft sprocket.
  3. Use an Allen wrench on the tensioner. Rotate the tensioner counterclockwise while pushing on the wrench until it slides into the locking hole.
  4. This will allow you to slide your belt on. Hope this helps.

04 dodge stratus has oil light coming on after a while of driving, car will start to make weird sounds and eventually dies, not sure if this is an oil pump problem, or a head gasket problem

sounds like an oil pump issue-but you need to look at your oil, is it white or foamy? If so, you have a dreaded sludge issue with that engine, a common complaint. change the oil, first, if you are going to drove it AT ALL, weither or not it is white or normal looking-

if you are using 5w-30, use 10w-40 and see if that makes the oil light go away. then keep an eye on engine temperature, the appearance of the oil on the dip stick and oil level. If it remains clean and at a normal level and the light still flickers, you should have the sender unit checked or replaced first. if that doesn't solve it you may need a oil pump, and then I am assuming the noise you speak of is a spun crank bearing, then it gets real expensive.

It is because of this that I say change the oil NOW, because if you hear noises, driving it with bad oil will kill the engine sure as anything. If it is foamy after the oil change, it probably is a head gasket, and you need to park it and get it fixed-again, if it is not too far gone (spun bearing, crankshaft or camshaft).

I have a 2002 dodge stratus with a 2.4l 4cyl dohc change oil pump

The oil pump is built in the front cover of the crankshaft,it is a kit that installs,to make the pump, check the oil pump screen first, they get stopped up on these,so it could just be that.

96 Dodge stratus Oil leak

Hi my name is Allen!

The gasket you are referring too is behind the timing belt cover next to the engine, remove that cover and pop out the old seal behind the camshaft sprocket at the very top of the engine, lube it heavily and you can push it with your fingers, becareful not the bend it are it will still leak, you must get it all the way in or it will pop out again.
