Engine mangement light stays on

with the light on there is a code that needs to be checked out. the smoke out tail pipe depends on what colour it is and if it has any odour to it. you have a problem with the car and it needs to be checked out.

There are way too many to list. The main reason it comes on is there is an emission failure of some kind. I assume when you say engine management you mean check engine light. Or the light with the picture of the engine and exclamation mark or a red triangle in the case of a hybrid.

The car is trying to tell you something - limp mode is there to protect the engine if a serious problem is detected. Stop driving it and get someone out to scan the codes and diagnose this.

check whether you do have a smell of fuel or burnt gasket in the radiator after remove the cap. If so then you have an overheated engine and blown gasket. Or check whether if you have either water in engine oil or vice versa. Having any of the two,surely you have to remove cylinder head for renewing cylinder head gasket etc.

something like O2 sensor will cause the check engine light stay on, not too worries,or you may take it to dealer did a service.(the light may stay on on that year model even after service.)

impossible without putting it on a computer for a code,that will give you an idea of the fault !!!!

if left on idle it is ok but after `few mins starts to almost die then picks up to 1500rpm and then back to normal

probably an oxygen sensor,most often the one before the cat in the manifold but get it checked with a diagnostic computer to be sure
