Well the coil should not get hot - indicates too much current, meaning points are not doing their thing. Go back to basics - follow elect from battery - to points, point action correct- gap correct - measure voltage at coil, should go up and down as you hand turn the engine. Also put in a new capacity around the points.

Connect two wires from the electronic distributor to the coil, ensuring that the Red is wired to the + and Blue to the - . The + coil must also have the + wire from the ignition switch. Connect the middle coil lead to the middle point of the distributor cap. Lastly, you are ready to start the engine and allow it to warm up.
