06 plate maxus steering won't return when cornering changed the steering pump still the same any ideas please
Steering stiff, changed steering pump, after I changed the pump and fluid it was ok for about half mile then it's gone stiff again, when cornering the steering won't return any help appreciated
Re: 06 plate maxus steering won't return when cornering...
Have a wheel alignment done
check the bearings at the top of the strut that allow the steering to turn
if failed they make the suspension spring wind up which accounts for the load on the steering wheel

Stiff power steering can be the result of low or contaminated power-steering fluid (it may need to be changed or flushed). A loose serpentine belt, a worn out power-steering pump, tie-rod/s or ball-joint/s may be seized, or possibly the rack and pinion may have an internal failure. I listed it in the order that I would check all related items. If you have any questions, findings, or details, please write back. Good luck.
Before changing pump jack car up check track control arms & bearings.Sounds like iits dragging not turning.Chech all movement will wheels off the deck ie on ramp.my poblem was dirt& locked control arm.
you have to specific in the make , model , year and equipment type
you problem indicates seized bearings in the rubber mounts at the top end of the struts and you are actually trying to twist up the springs
the new rack fixed for a short period of time eliminates the power steering pump
It could be the steering column joints are dry and seizing up as well ( dead spots when turning the wheel indicates joints not turning freely0
chec your fluid are there any leaks-mite need some new fluid-the pump maybe bad-also sensors hooked to steering should be viewed-could take car to the zone and have it scanned
If the steering is working ok it will be a new seal required in pump If steering feels funny or stiff there is a valve problem in steering unit Remove return line and make sure there is flow back to reservoir
