Question about 1986 Chevrolet G20

I replaced the timing chain, distributor, module and ignition coil. I also changed the computer and still, the van won't start. What am I doing wrong?

Check the fuel pressure.it should be 13psi.

My 1994 chevy astro van is turning over but won't start,i installed a new coil and anew distributor but there is no spark at the coil to the distributor


their are two spark control features one is the pick up coil it's mounted under the distributor the other is in the distributor it the control module check the pink wire that plugs into the distributor for power

CHECK IGNITION FUSE, DEPEND ON MODEL VECHICLE COULD HAVE BAD CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR.

Truck wont crank. we have put new distributor cap, rotor button, coil pack, plugs, wires, and fuel pump. we also checked our firing order.


you said you repl dist cap that means you don't have a crank sensor you have electronic ing module. remove your elec ing module have it tested most auto parts stores could test your module, or check your coil at the neg terminal. should have power. if not you lost your primary volt from your batt.your secondary power is coming from your electronic ing module from the module to the pos terminal on the coil, when the eng cranks,from the coil to the dist cap , from the dist cap center to the rotor then out to the plugs,this all happen pervided the timing belt or timing chain is ok. the cumbustion chainber needs 3 things , thats fuel, air, and spark.

That sounds like a problem with the ignition coil, or the ignition module located on the side of the distributor, and you can remove the ignition module (requires a special tool available from most auto part stores) and most auto part stores will test the ignition module for free.

Also, remove the distributor cap and inspect the connector for the ignition module inside of the distributor from the pick-up coil/stator and the connector should be white as shown in the image here and notice how white the connector looks, when it looks dark or burnt looking then either replace the pick-up coil coil/stator at the same time as the ignition module, or replace the entire distributor. (If you replace the distributor first note how the distributor housing is positioned, and do not forget to mark where the ignition rotor is pointing before, and after you pull the distributor up, that way the distributor will drop right back into place, and re-position the distributor housing as close you can get it to the way the original one was positioned that way the engine should start right up and then just follow the set timing procedures for the vehicle and the timing specifications should be listed out on the emission label under the hood, and be sure not move, crank, or rotate the crankshaft until the distributor is installed back into the engine)

If you are replacing the ignition module only, be sure that if that ignition module is supposed to have a silicone grease or a die-electric compound that it does come with the ignition module, because it is a heat sink and the ignition module will burn up without it. Also be sure to completely coat the entire metal contact surface of the ignition module with a thick coat of the silicone grease or die-electric compound and do not leave any of the metal contact surface un-coated, and be careful not to over-tighten the ignition module or it can be damaged. Some ignition modules have a gel film on the contact surface and do not require any silicone grease or die-electric compound.

Ignition pick-up coil/stator, notice now white the connector for the ignition module is, check your connector and if it is dark or burnt looking then replace also replace the pick-up coil/stator with the ignition module, or replace the entire distributor.

Replace old points distributor with a electronic ignition distributor in a toyota hiace van as well as wiring conversion.


this is easy if you can find parts meant for it. Need a distributor, a crank sensor and pulley with a reference point for the sensor, a control module, coil, cap, rotor, wires, and you should be good to go.the CKP (crank sensor) tells the module when to fire, the module fires the coil, and the distributor determines basically when it fires in terms of milliseconds (basic timing), same as with points. The timing via distributor is necessary since the fuel is not controlled via CMP (cam sensor). otherwise the distributor would be fixed and the computer would control fuel volume/timing and ignition timing at the same time, and since there is no reference for the fuel or valve timing, the module has no way to determine the most effective timing therefore simply fires when the crank passes the sensor.

timing issue by the sounds of it double check timing chain and sprocket positions then maker sure you haven't set the timing 180 degrees out, it an easy mistake

Have the mechanic remove the distributor,and replace the pick up coil in the distributor.These models are bad for this to go out.I assume the fuel pump has enough pressure?and it is working?Also,it is possible for the ignition coil to have went out,but the pick up coil is more likely.If I can help,let me know.

Engine died & wont start no spark ignition coil tested good


try your ignition module in the distributor much more likely. just install rebuilt distributor if that is the problem , if you just replace module the main distributor assem will **** out shortly after.
Make sure you check for broken timing belt also it is one of those two!
