Question about 2003 Kia Rio

1 Answer

Suzuki Sidekick will not go into any gear

I have a 95 Suzuki Sidekick and yesterday, I noticed it was hard to engage in a couple of gears. Well, today, everything came to a grinding halt (sorry about the pun) and I couldn't get it into any gear without forcing it. I had to get home so I did get it into 3rd gears and managed to get it all the way. I am not sure what to do to test it out for clutch or transmission problems and I guess I am going to attempt to get it to the mechanic in the morning, but I wanted to check here first.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Is clutch pedal soft!
if so it could be the hydraulics [ or cable ]
if not that then its the clutch that needs replacing!
Make sure they machine the flywheel too!

I have a 1995 Suzuki Sidekick jx it will not drive forward but will drive in reverse. I put oil in car and the transmisson fluid is full what could be the problem

95 jx
but is it 3speed or 4 speeds.
if 3speed, the lever not really going to Drive?
if that does happen the trans is bad.
if 4sp, (see od light see od switch and P/N switch that is 4speed
as is the 2 on gears, if 4speed it has a TCM brain
the tranny brain, and we can scan, it , or more accurately a jumper
clip , and the TCM flashes out codes
is the the OD lamp flashing, yes that is the TCM begging for help.

next time post trans gear counts, as we can not guess that ever
nor engine. 95 had 2 engine choices.

the 3speed also has a filter in the pan area (above)
if packed in junk,, as they all do. it will only shift hot. or not at all.
its called a full flush, with filter. not a lame drain and fill.

96 sidekick gear engaged only on 4x4 but when I put it on 4x2 all gear wont work

do not use 4wd on dry pavement, ever.
it's only for show or ice, or off road.
never day pavement.
if you persist i this action you will wind up the drive line and damage parts.
see the damage here.
stretching that chain drive or worse.

your car does not have AWD , all wheel drive.
not even close.
the correct car is a 2004+ Grand vitara with THAT OPTION.
the same RULE applies if the GV if you drive like this
with the GV nob turned to LOCK> (DONT)

Suzuki sidekick clutch problem

Check the cable clearance. Too much clearance will cause clutch slippage or total clutch disengagement. Adjust the cable so that the clutch pedal will be hard to press by hand .5 to .75 inch from its initial point.

'95 Suzuki Sidekick 4wheel drive problem

I maybe able to help. Did it make any noise when you tried (grinding or groan hum exe..) or just not work. If so the first thing I would do is to change the transfer case oil, check for metal in the oil, if there is that's really not good, take to shop. If no shinny metal replace with good quality oil, if it's red use atf if black or brown use 75W 90 and some. Auto trans fluid is recommended in cold climates or adding torque modifier check with parts store or dealer prefferably for what to use unless comfortable with choice then change front differentail fluid, with recommended fluid and torque modifier for limited slip differentails 2oz or alittle more. both holes fill till you can stick your finger in an just bairly bend it 1/8 or so inches and touch fluid. don't try to fill all the way if it comes out of the whole your filling clean up mess and allow as much to drain out as possible. If that happens you may have it vent through the vent and may see/ smell what every you put in it. If your comfortable with taking the diff cover off and replacing the gasket if needed (usually is) make sure its clean, don't use water or anything water based brake clean is good but check for metal and brownish or simial colored stuff in bottom of housing and of course metal. The teeth on the ring gear and pinion( ring gear is the small one in the back, ring gear is big and will be closest to you. if you have hunks of metal in there its smoked and replacement of ring gear and pinion is required (not cheap) there is alot more to look for but that should start you off in the right direction.

0.transmission takes a minute or 2 before reversr gear engages

The anti-drain-back valve in your torque converter has gone bad. The torque converter drains into the tranny when you shut down, and you have to wait until the pump refills it before it can work.

The pump does NOT fill the converter in park, only in one of the gear positions, or neutral. Start it up in NEUTRAL, wait a minute, and drive off.
