Where on the engine block is the coolant drain plug located for a 2004 Ford Focus with the 2.0 liter Zetec E engine?

I found a drain plug on the radiator, but not on the block. I looked on the exhaust side of the engine, but I could not see all of the intake side of the engine, since it is in front of the fire wall. Can you help me find the drain plug? Thanks, J. Gary Kampfer

SOURCE: how to change the spark plugs on a 1.6 zetec ford

get a plug spanner (more a socket than a spanner) and after removing the plug lead, use the spanner to remove the plug. Do one at a time so you dont get the leads mixed up or it will not start.

SOURCE: 2004 Ford F-250 6.0 liter diesel loosing coolant

i'm getting "internal control module keep alive memory?" for fault p0603. which i think has nothing to do with using coolant. i assume you're finding no leaks, so it's leaking somewhere you can't see. does it smell of antifreeze in the interior? is the carpet wet? the heater core might be leaking into the interior. there could be a slow leak on the top of the engine and it's boiling away before it has a chance to pool. fill your reservoir fully. let the engine get hot. inspect for steam in the engine compartment.

Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)

Draining Procedure

Warning! In order to avoid personal injury, do not remove the cap or open the cooling system drains from a hot system. Allow the system to cool first.

ImportantA 7.6 liter (8 qt) coolant container will be needed.
  1. Place the coolant container under the radiator drain **** located at the bottom of the right radiator end tank.
  2. Open the drain **** and drain the coolant. A small amount of coolant will drain from the system.

  3. Click to Enlarge
  4. Remove the surge tank cap from the surge tank and the coolant will drain from the system.

  5. Click to Enlarge
  6. For LE5 and LAT vehicles, if the engine block needs to be drained, a drain bolt is located near the bottom of the water pump assembly.
  7. Inspect the coolant.
  8. Follow the appropriate procedure based on the condition of the coolant.
  9. • Normal in appearance--follow the filling procedure.
    • Discolored--follow the flush procedure. Refer to Coolant System Flushing .

    Filling Procedure

Caution! All entrapped air must be purged from the powertrain cooling system before the final coolant level can be determined. Proper coolant level is critical to avoid engine damage.
ImportantThe vehicle must be level when filling the cooling system.
    1. Slowly add a mixture of 50/50 DEX-COOL antifreeze and clean water to the coolant surge tank. Fill the cooling system as indicated below:
    2. • For LE5/LAT vehicles when the engine block is not drained, add 3.5 liters (3.7 qts)
      • For LE5/LAT vehicles when the engine block is drained, add 6 liters (6.3 qts)
      • For LZ4/LY7 vehicles, add 5 liters (5.3 qts)
    3. Start the engine and check for leaks.
    4. Run the engine and cycle the vehicle from idle to 3,000 RPM in 30 second intervals until the engine cooling fan comes ON, the engine cooling fan turns ON at approximately 102°C (216°F). Repeat this process twice before the engine is turned OFF.
    5. Return the engine to idle, and idle for 30 seconds, then turn the engine OFF.
    6. Allow the vehicle to cool, before adding additional coolant.
    7. ImportantThe level in the surge tank will return into the cold fill range once the vehicle cools.
    8. Add additional coolant to the surge tank until the level is approximately 13 mm (0.5 in) above the surge tank seam.
    9. Install the coolant surge tank cap.
    10. Hope this helps.

Topped up coolant reservoir on a focus 1.8 zetec engine and found a leak. it seems to be coming out of a hole on the side of the engine block. It looks as if some sort of bung may be missing? if so what...

Sounds like a freeze plug. See picture below. These are put in to prevent the block from cracking when coolant freezes inside. They are easy to replace if you can get to them. Use a screwdrive and pliers to pry the old one out. Make sure you get the right size or pick up a variety of sizes for your engine, and also get some high temp sealer. Clean the hole well with a screwdriver, and slob a geed bead of sealer around the hole. Use a socket that fits into the plug somewhat snugly and a hammer to drive the new plug all the way in to the stop. Let me know if you have questions.

It should be on the passenger-side of the bottom of the radiator, facing the rear of the Focus. If not you will need to remove the lower radiator hose.

Crankcase capacity for 2003 ford focus 2.0 liter split port engine

Hi,

To my knowledge, a 2003 Ford Focus 2.0 SPi engine would need 4 quarts of engine oil (roughly 3.78 liters). Incidentally, the Ford/Cosworth Zeta/Zetec engine would be needing 4.25 quarts (~4 liters).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
