Question about 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

1 Answer

2004 Malibu Maxx - Hatch won't open either through any options

The rapid clicking noise is all I get from the hatch when I push any of the door-open buttons (key fob, front door, back hatch). Very frustrating and not sure how to get the door open at all now.

My hatch opens but it won't stay up without me holding it

If your hatch opens by itself with a push of a button, you will have to replace the door open and close motor located in the left rear of car. If your hatch is manual, you will just have to replace the hatch struts.

Hatch wont open. can hear it click but it wont open.

There is a hatch release relay in the rear electrical panel that has likely gone bad. Replace it and you should be just fine.

The clicking noise you hear is the relay trying to close, but it is worn enough that it won't allow it to engage long enough for the latch to release.

The relay panel is in the trunk area on the driver's side, inside the small recessed stowage area with the netting at the very rear of the car.

2005 MALIBU- TRUNK WILL OPEN BUT WILL NOT STAY UP.

There are two gas charged struts on eother side of the rear hatch. One or both of these has lost there charge and there ability to hold the hatch open. Be prepared for aome sticker shock as they are not cheap!

They might be available in the after market so do some price shopping at your local auto parts stores. Make sure you get a direct fit part if you go with the after market. The new ones should pop right on without adapters.

Hatch won't open on 2004 Malibu Maxx

Try pushing the trunk release and turning the key in the lock at the same time.
It sounds like the electric lock has not released for what ever reason.
You should hear the trunk release relay when you push the remote.

Latch of trunk won't open.. lots of clicking noise.

Had the same exact trouble. Changed the relay #36. Check the owners manual pages that show where all of the fuses/relays are. The fuse box for this relay is in the trunk area so I had to crawl in cuz the trunk wouldn't open. Good uck...hope this helps

Hatch won't open

Check the wiring going to the latch for loose connections and also check the relay which is located on the side of the trunk wall.
