Question about Hyundai Santa Fe

1 Answer

I have an 03 hyundai Santa Fe, while I am driving the speedometer keeps dropping to 0 then bouncing back to the speed I am traveling at. It first started when I was on the highway, it kicked out of cruise then this started and it is happening more and more now. What is causing it to do this?

There is a small sensor call VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor).

It feed data from the transmission to the computer ECU.

This can be a two part problem.

1)loose wire
Just check the connector on the transmission and make sure it's tight.
If you not sure which one then just give all connector a little push.

2)bad VSS.
It's not expensive and easy to replace.

Good luck

Which fuse runs speedometer for hyundae santa fe

The fuse for the instruments also powers the speedometer as well as the other instruments. If your speedo only is not working, it may be a bad VSS (vehicle speed sensor) on the transmission or the speedometer itself may be defective.

Did you change the plastic gear that goes on the vehicle speed sensor when you changed the sensor? Those wear out as well.

My speedometer drops to zero or jumps erratically plus cruise control stops. This only happens occasionally when at highway speeds. Rarely in town.

sounds like a bad speedo drive gear or speed sensor mounted on the rear of the trans there is no speedo cable, its electronic its not expensive take it to the dealer they will know exactly whats wrong with it

When driving, Speedodometer drops to zero.

I thought this year of Santa Fe had a 100k Warranty? If so, take it to the dealer and get it fixed. Even if it's not under warranty, take it and get it fixed! This is dangerous to use with the cruise control!! Do not use the Cruise Control until you get this fixed. It sounds like a bad speedomoter sensor, and that is confusing the Cruise Control. Either your speedometer is going to stop working altogether, or your going to RAM someone from behind going at a DANGEROUS rate of speed. Take it and get it fixed, and do not use the Cruise Control until it is fixed.
