Oil is the engines life blood, with out oil things sort of get welded together. Yes you need a new motor or you need to rebuild the one you have. Cost depends on who does the work, a good auto dealer will charge you upwards of $4800.00 a fair garage will charge you $3200. 00 Give or take. Try and find a friend that will help, Find and get a used one for $1100.00 or so, will take a fair mechanic 5-6 days out in the drive way. rent the equip you need for another $200.00 your back in business for say $1500.00 But then You can call it quits and buy another car. -- Sorry.

Ran out of engine oil and after i refilled, it wont start

I the engine ran completely out of oil, the engine has been cooked and is probably locked up from the friction between unlubricated metal moving parts. Also may have spun bearings which means the main or rod bearings stacked on top of each other causing the engine to lockup. If you ran the engine without oil until it quit you will probably need a new engine.

the oil that ran down the combustion chamber did not hurt your engine. but could have damaged the plug on that cylinder. so I would replace that one plug and if you still have the problem recheck the other plugs to make sure that the gap on the plug did not get closed.

ok. if coolant loss is evident and you need to add water each time and not loosing it (from anywhere visible). we can tell that there is a crack on upper part of your engine . cylinder head can be broken too. so that water is entering to combustion chamber and vaporized.

The oil light coming on when stopped at a stop sign tells me your engine was already damaged before you had the power loss problem. I would not waste the 650 to put in an oil pump. You would be further ahead to just replace the engine.

Have a 03 matrix with a oilpump promblem I think, bought the car last week ran good next day was drive on highway notice oil lap on and noise from motor ,slowed down light went off.Next day change oil and...

Generally three things can turn the light on. First is the sending unit itself if it's going bad. Next is an obstruction of the pump pickup screen (usually hard carbon deposits). Third is worn engine bearings (usually rod bearings). Best way to find the problem is to have someone put a mechanical pressure gauge on the engine and read the actual pressure. If it's low you need to go into the engine to determine why. if it's normal, replace the sending unit. Senders aren't terribly expensive and you could just buy one and replace the one you have, providing the engine isn't tapping or knocking.

94 Buick PA,225K...My Oil light keeps coming on, and there is a slight tapping in my engine,...what indicators would tell me that there's a major engine problem If I ran a proper diagnostic test on it?

The tapping is going to eventually wear out your camshaft, as the valve lash adjusters are not getting enough oil. The lack of oil may also cause premature wear of engine bearings. At 225K, there is no guarantee a new oil pump will solve the problem, as the bearing clearances may also be affecting the oil pressure. You may be able to extend the life using an oil additive. If you want to keep this car, i would try a new oil pump. If that doesn't fix the problem, you will need a complete engine rebuild. Let us know if you need instructions for replacing the oil pump, and thanks for using FixYa.

'00 Mercury GM - oil all ran out, engine seized - runs poorly now

Your problem is that you ran the engine without oil. In doing so, you damaged most (if not all) the bearings in the engine. There is nothing you can do to make this engine better except to do a complete rebuild. Bad bearings will result in extra internal friction. Thus engine will run terrible, probably knock, have less power, and use more gas.
