Question about 2003 Dodge Neon

3 Answers

My car shakes and is very loud when idle, and when driving it is starting to make a loud, high-pitched whistling noise. i went on a trip and when i got to about 75 mph on the highway it felt like my arms were going to go numb from the constant shake. i recently have gotten an oil change, tune up, and had my tires balanced and rotated. i have gotten rear ended a few times in the past and backed into a tree a couple months ago. there are also really big speed bumps that i have to go over every day to get home and no matter how slow i drive and what angle i approach them, it always seems to bottom out. i've looked under my car and it doesn't look like anything is hanging below where it should be... i don't have any idea about what is wrong and don't want to get ripped off for being a "dumb" girl at a mechanic's shop. please help! thank you!

Oh your not a "dumb" girl. Your tires may just be bad and need to be replaced, the tires could have what they call belt separation and that's when the steel belt in the tires are bad and the tires can no longer keep there shape. Check the tire pressure and make sure there at the right PSI which is posted in your drivers door panel and on the tires it self. The other thing to is you may have  abd engine mount and the engine will shake causing the vibration to get worst at higher speeds and also the rims it self could be warped by hitting big pot holes at high speed. These are just the simple things to start with, so lets Recap: inspect the tires for conditions and air pressure, the wheels to make sure there are no cracks or any damages, and check the engine mounts. You can check the engine mounts with a friend, open the hood and have your friend stand to the side as you put the car in to drive and then revers and ask your friend if the engine is moving too much. There will be movement but not like the engine wants to come out and shake you hands,
Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to answer any questions you may have and hope we can get your car running 100%

Motor mounts insulate the engine from the car. Your mounts sound like they are worn out. Loud could be exhaust or alot of things.

Sounds like you need to change mechanic in big hurry!
shaking at idle could be a whole lot of things but as you have had it tuned recently i suspect that timing has shifted !
[ mabe they didnt tighten the distributor & its moved.]
whistling noise ?? HMMM ok mabe air flow is restricted to intake?
tyres may not have been ballanced or the weights used have fallen off?
as for bottoming out on speed humps i would say that the shock obsorbers need replacing.
compare your ride height with a similr car just park near it & see if yours looks lower IT SHOULDNT! see its simple things like that that can give you a good insight! [LOGIC]
bounce the front of car on each side if it stops within 1.5 movements its reasonable if not then replace them
now ask family etc how good their mechanic is & get a few recommendations !
Im in AUSTRALIA but you can contact me if you need further input.
Cheers Rob.

What is making this 08 caliber 2.0L sxt cvt have a High pitched whining sound at idle and driving?

Possible bearing in one of the drive pulleys. I have changed numerous alternators for this noise. Take the belt off and start the car. If the noise goes away you know it will be pulley related and not transmission related. If noise goes away, spin all pulleys by hand to determine the defective/noisy one

My car engine makes loud sound when i drive

This could be a number of things and a car is difficult to diagnose from sounds as th nature of it means that the sound does not always come from where it sounds like it is. Try - wheel bearings (usually a high pitched squeal) - Big or little end bearings if the engine has been run low on oil. It is an auto I assume so could be gear box. It could be something really simple like engine mounts and the vibrations of the engine are passing to the metal body as the rubber has come away.

W+Could you possibly video it and post?

Whining engine

does yours have a turbo fitted as it can be this. if it dont go up or down with engine speed it can be somthing ells , like a wheel bearing catching brake shield ( onto the disc) or even the thrust bearing on the clutch. auto dont have this.

So i have a cadillac STS when i start it up its like it is accelerating on its own without stepping on the the gas but what i am concern is when i place the car in drive D it knocks really bad a loud sound...

Sounds like a vacuum leak. this will affect the idle causing it to idle high but with no power (at idle) so almost dies at idle in drive, (under resistance) The knocking is likely your exhaust pipe shaking and hitting under car, cos of the engine shake.
Look for a vacuum tube hanging loose from around the intake area. Maybe trim off stretched end and reattach. May be able to hear it with engine running.

98 lincoln navigator loud noise, shaking, high rpm at idle, drive

I don't know how much oil you had to put in but it sounds like you have maybe more than opne issue and both sound major. One is engine reving and speed not picking up sounds like trans problem. Two the engine shaking and making noise and being run low on oil leans toward possible engine damage. If your mechanicly inclined check all fluids and when checking trans fluid smell it. If it smells burnt the trans has been damaged. Check oil pressure and make sure coolant is full. You may have to take it into the shop.

Hi, I have a 2006 Altima with 31,500 miles. Recently, the engine start shaking when car is Idle but I still feel the shake when driving or at red lights. My second problem is a weird loud (humming) noise...

You don't need to change the spark plugs since it has only 31.5 K. The plugs should last 60K. There is a an adjustment at the gas cable end at engine to increase the idle a little bit. You can increase rpm at idle to 600 RPM. Since your RPM at idle is low that why it is shaking at idle, red lights. Let me know it it is shaking at high speed ( 2500 RPM)
