What?????

They stripped the treads on the sump pan and they now expect you to buy a new sump pan?????

My friend - It is standard practice to replace the sump plug with a new one at every oil service precisely because of this problem of stripped treads on plugs and the possibility of an ensueing oil leak. They obviously did not have your size sump plug and tried to force the wrong one in and have now stripped the tread from the sump itself !!

This is gross incompetence on the part of any mechanic. My advice to you is - yes - a new sump is required now - but I will give you one guess who should be paying for it and rectifying the damage caused - and its not you !!

Get back to them and demand that they rectify the mess they made of this. Its a bread and butter procedure for any shop and there is no excuse for making a mess like that on an oil change. As a customer you should not be subjected to shabby treatment like this!

Know your rights and stand up for them!

Just call Ford. Ask for parts. They will tell you. Its the labor thats really going to cost you. Don't put a used one on because it could have the same issue.

Should be cheap if you go through a salvage yard. dealership of corse is the highest price for new. expanding rubber plugs are also avalible, but you will need to measure hole for proper fit. good luck.

It is cheap considering that they stripped the treads, so they have to pay for the repairs on you car. Cost, about 140.00

How do i replace a oil housing gasket on a 2000 3.8 grand prix?

You'll need new gasket for oil pan,,,proper socket and drive to fit the bolts around circumference of pan.scraper and new oil or catch pan to save old oil, approx 5 qts . 1/ Begin by draining oil....drain plug on lower part of pan..get that wrench also.....it is larger than bolts arund pan......2/after drained, put drain plug back in and tighten snugly. not too tite......3/remove pan by removing all the nuts around pan, dislodge pan from it's seal , may takea little tender tapping with rubber mallet to release the pan, do not pry at lip, you may damage pan....4/ Clean both sealing surfaces of old gasket.....5/ dampen new gasket with oil and put it on pan in proper position, ....6/put bolts back in pan one on each side to hold pan up,,,put rest of bolts in pan and tighten in random pattern around pan trying to keep pan even at mating to engine.....7/when pan is on and fairly snug, fill the oil into filler at proper fill neck w proper amt of oil. about 5 qts,U.S......Make sure drain plug is not dripping, if so, put a little more torque on it. Not too much, they are prone to strip. Done. Or, about 40 dollars at oil change place.

Too much oil in engine

Must be the drain plug for the oil pan. Take a small screw driver to start and tap it between the bolt and pan. Then start loosening the bolt. It should start to back out. Go to a bigger screw driver if needed. Usually once you get it to the good thread it will come out. take it slowly. Once out, you can get an oversized plug to put back in it. It's self tapping. At the autoparts store.

Hi I have a 2000 vw beetle I had the oil changed and it all leaking twice as soon as they put it in it came out. Can you help me with this problem.

Have it towed back to the shop, it sounds like they installed the filter improperly or left the drain plug loose.

Starter bolt stripped. Helicoil or tap?

Either way ,is a lot of work. First thing I would try is a little bit longer bolt. Take a screw driver and push into the stripped hole to determine how long you can go.Even 1/4 inch more threads might be enough to hold starter secure. A little sealer on threads would be good.. If all that fails ,try to oversize the bolt and retap.Make sure the oversize bolt will go through the starter. I have had good success with J B WELD [brand] to drill and retap. Just make sure the surface is clean

What maintenace Does a 2003 Toy Rav4 manual transmission need?

The manual transmission oil, or gear box oil can't last forever. It is a good idea to replace every 60K miles with a new one. Just as with motor oil, and oil change is cheap insurance. Buy synthetic oil if you can.
The manual transmission oil change is a simple procedure, but can complicated and creates costly problems.
First remove the filling bolt. In some cases this is siezed, If the heating doesn't help, you don't want a stripped filler bolt, with an empty transmission. Use WD-40 and do not use extensive force.
If the bolt still won't budge. Stop. Lower the car and visit a shop for service.
After removing the filler bolt (upper), then remove the drain bolt at the bottom.
Replace the drain bolt, with a new one, normally has a magnet, and thread it by hand after with a wrench.
Fill the gearbox with oil using a gear oil / lube pump. Replace the filling bolt and process same as with draining bolt.
If you will change the gear box oil every 60K miles this is the best insurance for your manual transmission. DO NOT FORGET TO REPLACE FILLING AND DRAINING BOLTS WITH NEW ONE.
In rare cases a rusty bolt is siezed, almost rust welded in the transmission housing, so the transmission must be removed and taken to a machine shop.

How to change the oil pan on my 2000 Ford Contour 4cyl.......I was told at the oil change place that it was all rusted out and leaking and needs to be replaced....How big a job is this???? Can I do this,...

It shouldn't be that big of a deal. If the oil pan is the only part that has oil on it, it is most likely an oil pan gasket or rtv sealant that needs to be replaced. If you have actual holes in the pan then your problem is probably bigger. Depending on how bad the rust is, getting those fasenters out might present a problem so I would try turning a couple before draining all the oil. If the bolts turn then drain the oil from the plug as if you were doing an oil change. There are twelve of these bolts and there is a proper untightening and tightening sequence which is difficult to explain without a diagram but try and work in a spiral pattern from the center. Once it is off make sure you scrape all rtv off and any oil residue otherwise it will leak again. Re-apply rtv or whatever ford recommends and when it is ready, put it back trying to tighten the bolts from the center working your way out in a criss cross spiral pattern. Hope all goes well
