My 2003 jeep grand cherokee will start fine after it sits overnight or for a hour or so but won t start if i go to the store and get in it five minutes later. After 1 hour it cranks right up

Sounds like a fuel mixture issue, being a 2003 must be EFI, could be faulty mass air flow sensor, fuel mixtures being to rich when engine is at operating temp.

Your Jeep has what's known as the delayed start, no check engine light problem. The Jeep will not start until the check engine light comes on, on the dashboard. Next time it cranks but will not start, look at the dashboard to see if the check engine light is illuminated. If it's not lit up, then your Jeep does have that problem and your Jeep ecu is in need of repair or replacement. There are components inside the ecu that are going bad and will continue to get worse, eventually leading to a permanent no start condition. There are ecu repair services and replacement ecus on ebay.
Make sure your fan clutch is working. No fan, no cooling of the condenser, no heat dissipation, no cold air. Start the truck and make sure you feel air movement, a lot.
Low fuel pressure. You need to check the fuel pressure on the first crank and watch it as it is running. Requires a special gauge. If it were just a starting problem I would say it could be a pump relay, but not if it runs rough for 5 min. Might be a dirty filter or problem in the tank.
Hi Roger, Sounds to me as if you may have a problem with the anti theft unit in your vehicle. A diagnostic scan would help greatly to pin point the problem. Regards John
there is also a cam sensor and throttle position sensor, any codes, fuel npump can test ok but jeeps are noted to have the fuel tank sock come off in the tank and the fuel pumps can have intermittent starting problems. I hope thiis helps
