I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 4 wheel drive. I

I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 4 wheel drive. I need to know how to remove the front hub assembly off the passenger side. I've already removed the brakes and rotor and center spindle nut. I've also already removed three 12 point bolts from the back side of the hub assembly. I still cannot get the hub assembly out of the hub frame to remove the drive shaft. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks you. cj2176

I have found that you need to first make sure the cv shaft is moving free in the bearing. soak everything with penitrating oil. you should be able to move shaft in & out a little. the hub is a very tight fit. you need to tap it some from side to side untill you see a little gap between hub and spindel. then place the head of a flat screw driver in that gap and all around the hub, prying back and forth where ever possible. soak, tap and pry all over. be hard on it if replacing, more gentle if not. good luck.

I know this sounds stupid, but did you remove the cotter key and the nut from the hubs flange on the outside? This is what keeps it linked to the axle splines the other bolts you removed keep the bearing /hub assembly tied to the front suspension. This answer is not meant to be insulting to you. Just a reminder. Some people do not know about the purpose of this nut at the end of the axle.

How do i remove the hub assembly from the front wheel of my 2001 dodge ram RWD?

  • Jack up your Dodge Ram. Block the wheels to keep it from rolling as you work. Get started by removing the first tire and wheel assembly. Remove the hub extension and the brake caliper as well as the caliper adapter.
  • Remove the grease cap, cotter pin, nut lock, nut, washer and outer wheel bearing. Now, pull the old rotor off of the spindle. Clean the area with a damp cloth to remove any debris. Pack the wheel bearings with grease.
  • Install the new rotor and hub onto the spindle. Replace the outer wheel bearing, washer, and then the retaining nut. Torque the nut to 30 to 40 ft. lbs. while rotating the hub and rotor. Then tighten the nut and install the nut lock and a new cotter pin.
  • Clean the grease cap and then coat it with new wheel bearing grease and replace the cap. Put the caliper adapter back into place and then tighten the two mounting bolts with a torque wrench. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  • Repeat this process for each additional rotor and then lower the vehicle. Tighten the lug nuts and test drive your Dodge Ram to make sure that the installation was successful.

    On my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2 2WD, I just found

This is a very simple job to do. Raise the front of truck off the ground, block the rear tires. Using pliers and a hammer, remove the grease cap from hub. Remove the cotter key and nut from axle, pull out slowly and remove outer bearing. then remove hub from axle. To remove inner bearing ,prop hub on a board and use a large punch to drive out bearing and seal. Clean out inside the hub and install new bearing and seal. Replace all parts in the reverse as you took them off. Hope this will help you.

Do i have adjustable hubs on my 1997 dodge ram 1500 magnum 2 wheel drive

    your hubs are NOT adjustable

well.. you could tighten your torsion bars and that will lift the front of your truck up, but i wouldnt recomend it because

    1. it is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. the torsion bar could snap while adjusting it and fling through the cab.

    2. Your vehicle will ride extremely rough.
