When i connect a test light to the wire at the gas tank and turn the key on do the test light suppose to come on?

First things first my friend. You must test the gage to be sure it is good. Normal procedure is: Switch off, unplug the wires from the sending unit at tank, connect jumper between the power wire and ground wire in the connector block, go to the switch and turn it to run position. If the needle goes to full, the gage is good. Turn the switch off. Now, be sure the connection is plugged in completely and you've a GOOD ground on the sending unit tab on the top of sending unit. No ground, no working needle. Use the test light to find if there's continuity with ground tab using power wire and touch the ground. No light, work with it till you do. Clean stuff to make the ground on tab work. Once test light does light between power and ground tab, your good. Gage should definitely be working now. If it doesn't work, this calls for replacing the sending unit in tank by dropping the tank first. Then it's easy to replace the sending unit.

Turn truck on gauges work then fuel gauge just lay down

Year make model? Possible fuel sending unit located in the gas tank has failed or no power supply to it or actual fuel gague problem

Gas gague not working in 93 gmc sierra

The fuel level gage sending unit is defective, very common problem. The sending unit comes with a new fuel pump and is referred to as a module, also make darn sure you replace the fuel pump connector at the fuel tank, solder and shrink tube the new connector on, DO NOT USE CRIMP CONNECTORS.

My fuel gage is reading full at all times and the radio will not come on is this a fuse issue or two different issues?

You definitely have two different issues as the fuel gauge and radio are on different circuits. The radio could be a blown fuse, which would require finding a short circuit. The fuel gauge could be as simple as a bad connection at the sending unit or a lost ground on the fuel tank. Disconnect the fuel gauge at the tank and with a twelve volt test light well grounded probe the harness terminals with the key on (engine off). The fuel gauge should move when the sending unit wire is probed, and the test light should light dimly. Other terminals are a ground for the sending unit, a ground for the fuel pump, and power for the fuel pump. If the gauge moves when the sending unit wire is probed the problem is either the sending unit or a bad harness connection. If the gauge doesn't move during the probe there is a wiring problem (open circuit) or a bad dash gauge. Hope this helps.

Fuel Gague register's empty even when full.

97 s10 pickup 4.3 sending unit. purple to gauge black/white wire? my black/white wire has 5v at conector sending unit does your sending unit get volts. my ohms are correct on sending unit. nothing on gauge...

It is ok for your gauge to go to 1/4 when off. It is even some what normal. The gauge is going to its neutral position. Keep in mind it is also comon for the sending unit to fail in this year / make of vehicle.

I hope this helps.

Full tank-fuel gague registers empty-need fuel light is on

There is a sending unit in the fuel tank that registers how much fuel there is. It is probably broken, giving you a funny reading on your gauge.

Fuel gague needle bounces when you turn on the key ,dont belive it reads correct below a half a tank

The problem is the sending unit - either it has a broken wire on it (which will be visible), its contacts are dirty and need electrical contact cleaner, or the sending unit is just flat-out broken and needs replacement.
