What does a vacum switch do on a toyota corolla

There are any number of vacuum switches, all have different functions and control vacuum operated devices like EGR and other emission control devices as well as heater and AC functions. The year and engine do make a difference along with where the car was first sold.

Blower work fine but still dont get no heat or defrosters could use some help thank you

It sounds like your heater controls are not working. They are usually operated by a vacume line. check under dash passenger side behind glove box for the vacume line disconected ps check engine side first its easier. if vacume line is good chech vacum at heater box their is a meatel vacume unit that opens and closes the heat and defrost doors. if your heat is only comeing out of the defrosters The doors under the dash are not opening and closeing. ChecK the metal vacume unit . A vacume pump can be purshed at parts store some have a loner program.

The ac only blows out the top(defrost) and floor at the same time. it want blow out the front vents. Whats the problem and how to fix it?

The problem is that the control is vacum operated,so either the rotary vacum switch is bad or you have a vacum leak under the hood or under the dash area.

My 99 suburban idles at 1000 rpm in park with a new TPS at operating temp. What is the factory idle setting? how do I adjust rpm?

There no adjustment for idle, control by computer, TPS reading should be .50 volt's, you could have a vacum leak, check vacum line and check for vacum leak at base of intake manifold.

When both heater controls are put on hot I get warm air on the passenger side and no heat on the drivers side.

Sounds like you are not getting enough hot water to the heater core. Check the heater control valve to make sure it is operating properly. If it has a vacume line disconnect it and make sure there is plenty of vacume. If not enough vacume find the leak and repair it. If it operates electrically make sure there is voltage if there is voltage then make sure the valve is opening all the way if not replace the valve. If the valve is opening all the way you may have an obstructed or plugged heater core.

Fan is okay on heater but no warm air coming out.

It sounds like the valve may be stuck or broken that provides heat to the core. First check your water/fluid level in your radiator. If that is full then you want to look for a valve that is occassionally vacum operatedon one of the two lines, about 1" in diameter, that run from teh radiator core to the Firewall. normally these are on teh Passenger side. Look at this valve and see if it is vacum operated or manually operated by a cable. If it is cable operated make sure the cable is actually working, if it is vacum operated make sure you can open and close it by hand and that you have vacum on the line. If vacum is present and you can operate it by hand then the valve itself is faulty. Same if you can't operate it by hand. If there is no vacum you have a vacum problem and most likely need to trace teh vacum line back to it's source and or replace it. The Haynes repair manual for your vehicle will be able to assist you further and provide pictures and diagrams of teh system to follow.

2002 Land Rover ~ Freelander - No heat coming from the heater

Look for two water lines about 1 in in diameter running back toward the condensor unit in the firewall. On one of those lines will be a control. It is sometimes vacum controlled. When they are vacum conrolled they have a tendency to get stuck or you may have lost vacum to the unit. You can use a vacum tester and short piece of hose to test this to see if you have lost vacum or if it is stuck closed. Connect the test hose to the control on teh hose and apply vacum to the unit. If the valve opens you will get heat in the vehicle. If it does not open then it is stuck in the closed position and will need to be replaced in most cases.
