Oil pressure in the transmission may be low--clogged intake filter or worn oil pump. Time to have the transmission serviced by someone you trust.

The direct clutches are worn out or you have an internal fluid pressure loss, in any event the trans must come apart.

Look under the truck to check for any oil loss.. spraying everywhere.. you will notice the driveshaft where it connects to the tranny theres a seal gasket that should be changed.. it looks like a ring with a rubber cap. i changed it today on my truck then added oil and im running great

check your transmission fluid level with the engine running and the gear in neutral. be sure to engage the parking brake. that model also requires a special fluid or a friction modifier (additive).

My 1999 chevy suburban slips and doesnt go to 3rd geer do i need a new transmission

sounds like the bands are slipping or the worst case the sun ring gear has broken, in either case a rebuild is necessary. Have you tried changing the filter and fluid to see if this helps? This is a littly costly for the fluids and such but I would at least get an estimate fron a transmission shop, they might get lucky and find a bad selenoid or vacume line.

Trannsmisson Problems

check carefully to make sure it is shifting from 1st to 2nd.... there is a "sun reactor shell" inside the transmission that when broken causes reverse, 2nd and fourth to be lost. it is an extremely common failure.

best way to check.... drive along with the gear shift lever in "2" you should feel one shift as you accelerate. then carefully bump it into "3" or "D" whichever the case may be. another shift should be felt. if you do not feel a shift, you have likely stripped the teeth of that shell. hope this helps..

Transmission wont shift into 3rd gear.

I had this exact problem on my 2005 5.3L Suburban... It would shift into 1 and 2 and reverse, but not 3 and 4.

I took it into a transmission shop, and he said the 3-4 shift solenoid was burned up. Wanted 1500 to fix it. Far from home, so I have to pay it.
