Side lights stay on perminantly, car turned off.

1995 sable wagon. First interior lights stayed on after car was switched off(stay on for hours),then a few days later they would switch on/off(flash every 15 secs or so),then when you turn car off central locking would OPEN/CLOSE very rapidly,as if child was playing with switch, now the side lights wont turn off,I have now disconnected the battery. All these issues occured on after the other over a period of a week or so.Greatful of any Ideas/suggestions
Many thanks

I can not tell you what is shorting, however if you have a car manual you will see circuit breakers in the fuse panel. The quick resetting sounds like circuit breakers working. You may be able to feel the clicking if you put your finger on the breaker. Then remove it and see what does not work. You may be able to isolate the problem enough to trace it. Good Luck

Why do interior lights stay on?

Body control module or the door switches are the culprit. Make sure they function correctly. More likely its the BCM, but don't ignore the door switches.

Try disconnecting the negative battery cable for a minute or two. Then re-connect cable and start the car. Good luck.

2002 Sable - Interior light stays on all the time when car is running. When the car is shut off the mirror safety light should only stay one for a short time but stay on for 15 minutes.

you have either the thumb wheel switch beside the headlamp switch is turned all the way up or a sticking door ajar switch.
Does the door ajar light in instrument cluster stay on?
If so then you can shoot some WD-40 into the latches on the side of the doors then open and close them firmly a few times and this will usually unstick them.
