The check DLC light turned on. What does that mean? And how do I fix it?

I was actually wondering what I would have to check or if I can still drive my car. I know if the check engine light pops on that usually means 'get out now' I was wondering if this was the same kind of deal.

The flashing light DLC can mean a severe misfire making it run bad and possibly destroy the catalytic converter . Can you have the codes scanned and post them here ?

Why service engine soon light comes on

this old car is what is called OBD1 technologist, (custom to each maker)
the operators manual says what, "Get it serviced now"
SES, soon,,,,,,
it means the EFI puter sees gross errors.
it means to scan it, but hark this old car , has 1cent jumper wire test.
its here.
see it. see photo 2, the DLC next to the battery
see the jumper?

see that red 91 tracker.
good now click home and read what to do on that page.
CEL page.
SES is same for CEL.
this car is a federal USA car also has federal nag light,
that turns the lamp on at 50,000 miles and repeats
see NAG lamp rules. there.

How to turn off check engine light on 1987 AUDI 5000?

This is on a 1987 audi 5000s. The light that comes on is an engine with a lightning bolt through it. When this comes on the car loses power, have to turn off and restart. That will work for a short distance and the light back on again. I just got the car about a month ago for my 16 yr. son's first car. If there is anything you can do I appreciate it. Thank you.
Open the driver's door of the PT Cruiser and kneel down to locate the 16-point data link connector (DLC) under the dash. It sits up under the dash to the left of the brake pedal on earlier model Cruisers. Later models moved the connector slightly to the right, closer to the steering wheel column, but still under the dash.

  • 2 Plug the pocket scanner plug into the DLC. Because of its unique shape, there is only one way to plug any connectors onto the DLC, making it foolproof.
  • 3 Place the key into the ignition and turn it two clicks forward to the "II" position. This position provides accessory power and illuminates the instrument cluster without the engine running. It also provides accessory power to the pocket scanner.
  • 4 Read the onscreen menu of the pocket scanner. The scanners are easy to use, but if necessary, read the manual provided with the scanner to navigate through the menu. Many modern pocket scanners are equipped with "Erase" buttons -- in that case, press erase to reset the code. Other models may have "Enter" or "Scroll" button(s) to navigate through a few different options (one of the options being the erase codes option).
  • 5 Erase the code(s) with the scanner and start the engine of the Cruiser. Determine if the service light is out. If not, repeat the procedure. If the light is still on, it means there is a "hard code" that must be read (with the scanner under "Read Codes" option) and properly repaired.

No communication from pcm to scan tool no check engine light on no power to term.16 at dlc connecter

Check fuses for power to the dlc. They used to hide it with the cigar lighter. It is best if you pull the fuses instead of using a test light. I have fixed problems just because the fuse lost contact in its holder.

Dlc doesn't work now. only thing i can think of is when future shop installed my remote starter they spliced into a wire on the back of my dlc and maybe buggered it need a wireing diagram to see if...

What do you mean it "doesnt work", the DLC doesnt do anything. Its the port that lest the scanner communicate with the computers in the truck. The LIGHTER fuse supplies 12V to the power pin on the DLC. If the fuse is good, take it back and make them fix it.

Check engine light is on. how do i diagnose it without a scanner

in the engine compartment there is a small fuse box labeled ¨DLC¨ or ¨diagnostic¨ . Flip open the cap and on the inside of the cap is a chart of the terminals. use a paper clip or small jumper wire to jump terminals T and E1. then turn on the ignition switch to "on" but not start. The check engine light will start flashing codes. Example: two flashes, pause, three flashes = Code 23. the codes will repeat until you turn off the key or remove the jumper. Look up the codes online at a toyota forum or come back here with the codes and we'll tell you what they mean. Don't forget to remove the jumper before starting the engine.

Engine died, everything else normal. plugged obd2 in and it wont even turn the unit on. is the computer freid?

did you turn the ignition key on when you plugged in the obdII code reader? some of them need to get power from the dlc(diagnostic link connector) to work. it is possible the ecm(pcm) has failed but you could also have a bad ground for it. does the engine crank over? when you said everything else is normal, do all the dash lights and gauges come on before you try to start the engine? by the way the ecm/pcm is covered by federal emissions warranty for 8 years or 80k miles(except california).

My check engine light just turned on randomly on my 92 subaru loyal. I have a DLC but don't know where to connect it. Help!

a DLC for OBD2 wont work on your car. only cars made after 1996. you may need a manual for your car, there should be 2 green connectors under the dash to connect, or they may be under the hood. then the light will flash codes out. Its been so long I cant remember.
