Question about Saturn SL1

1 Answer

The key got stuck in the Acc position but the key will no longer turn. I have disconnected the battery and removed the outer casing and have access to the cylinder housing. I was looking for a tab either on the top back or right side but the ignition cylinder is totally encased and there is no access to tabs that Ican see. This is the original igniton cylinder so it is the factory install. Have not had any problems prior.

I just searched the internet and found a YouTube video on how to remove the ignition cylinder. I tried what it showed and in about 5 minutes it was done. I waited and waited for a FixYa answer and finally had to resort to other means. I sent an e-mail cancelling all my accounts with FixYa stating that I do not want to be charged the month fee and if I need Fixya and have the time to wait I will do it on a basis to basis payment. I do not use FixYa sufficient amount of times to warrant the monthly fee. I have only tried FixYa twice and not really satified with the results. Bouldergolf

If you haven't done this already:make sure the shifter is in park again; then while trying to turn the key wiggle the steering wheel back and forth if your wheels are turned all the way left or rite you may have to force it a little.hope this helps.

2001 Chevy Malibu- Key will not turn ignition to OFF. It will turn to start the car, but stops on ACC when attempting to turn off forcing me to disconnect the battery so it wont die.

I had the same problem with my 2001 malibu. I found that there is a cable that goes from the key switch to the shifter. and I disconnected the cable at the shifter, and I no longer have the key getting stuck on acc. you may need to push the cable (inner part) towards the switch.
if you pull the cable out just a little you won't be able to get the key to go all the way to the OFF position.
also there is a cylinder as you can see in the pictures, mine has had the wires cut( by the previous owner) you may need to unplug yours. I'm not sure. before you put the console back together try to start the car and put it in gear.

2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE PARASITIC DRAIN

Most drains are caused by door switches or hood switches not turning off lights. It could really be anything. You can either get a meter, pull off your Negative battery cable and put one meter lead on your now off.negative battery cable and negative battery terminal. Set your meter to read dc amps. Start pulling fuses one by one until the meter reads less then .5 amps or 500 mA. If you dont have a meter you can try pulling one every night until you battery no longer drains and narrow it down from there. Anything with power could really be causing this. Alternator and starters are also known for draining batterys while not running.

How do I remove the ignition lock on my 1998 Mazda Protege? Tumblers are stuck. Key won't go past accessory.

if ou do not have the key, look at the replacement lock there'll be a tab which recesses when the key is turned to acc or on position. It is that tab which prevents you from removing lock cylinder it has to be forced into a recessed position or drilled to where the cylinder can removed. If u do then locate tab turn key to acc or on and push tab to recessed position and remove cylinder.

Need to remove and replace ignition switch 2000 ford windstar

Hello, The Ignition switch is not too bad to remove. You will need to disconnect and reconnect the battery several times while changing the switch. The plastic cover on the steering column usually has 4 screws that you access from the bottom of the cover.

There is a core in the switch that is what the key turns to make the switch work. You want to keep this core as it has the grooves that match the key. To remove this core you have a spring loaded pin that you access from below and press(Using a drillbit or nail). You insert your key and just pull the core out when the core is turned to either the ACC position or the RUN position.

As I stated earlier, one battery cable has to be removed. Since there are safety Interlocks you need to have power when you turn the key to either position. You promptly disconnect the battery cable after the key is turned to RUN or ACC. If you have any difficulty in getting the column cover loose, there is sometimes a large flange on the key core. This will all be out of the way once the core comes loose.

Now you are staring at the bare Ignition switch. There is a wiring bundle that you unhook and pull away. The Ignition switch is sometimes adjustable. Scratch marks on the housing where the Ignition switch is attached and then remove the switch. Place the new switch in the same position.
Then reverse all of the procedures to finish.

Now that I have answered the exact question you asked for, I can not help but wonder if you want to replace the switch to solve a starting problem. There is an Interlock switch which requires the gearshift to be in Park or the starter will not work when you turn the key to start your van. This switch could be bad or out of adjustment. Ask at Autozone, Advance or Oreilys about this switch before you go to all the needless work replacing a good Ignition switch.

I hope my solution is very helpful to you.

Key locks in the ignition in the ACC position. can't take key out

when you turn key to acc pos that is telling the ignition to go into a accessory mode which runs the radio, wipers etc... but it doesnt allow the ignition circuit to run, and the key in most vehicles will not be able to come out, this is a security protection so that you do not leave accessories on that will drain the battery. The ignition key should only be able to be removed in the OFF position.

The key for my 99 mazda 626 is stuck in the ignition in the acc position. The car will start and run, but the battery does not stay charged because of it being stuck. What could cause it to be stuck like...

To unlock and take off the key, try disconnecting the battery; about the charge problem, its possiblke that you have any loss wires from alternator, or the alternator self go to bad.

1999 Saturn sl Replacing Ignition

Disconnect the battery, of course. Turn the key to the ON or RUN position. There is a detent that you need to push to release the lock cylinder. There is a tool made for this. It's a thin flat metal blade. If your vehicle is equiped with anti-theft, you will need to reprogram it through your body control module, using a scan tool, before your car will start.
