The natural safety switch if defective.

This switch is part of the linkage and it give signal on the ECU which gear you're in + turn on reverse light when you are in reverse.

I will vacuum out selector area and move the lever back and fourth to free up the dirt and dust.

You may luck out or it's time from the shop.

Quite likely it is the neutral safety switch - jeep Cherokee has the same problem, inside the switch are sliding contacts and from the factory they have grease on them- after aging a few years, the grease gets hard and prevents the sliding contacts to connect properly. Because they are spring loaded - they cannot move - especially if the weather turns cold, then the problem will appear. They only allow a connection in park or neutral and power to the starter only in these positions. I expect your problem is similar - this device is located on the transmission near where the linkage connects or on some vehicles on the shaft on the opposite side. If you are a bit mechanical and can see it and it has screws - not a sealed unit - it can be taken apart and cleaned and it will work again. Sometimes a temporary solution if you are stuck someplace is to move the gear shift back and forth on an automatic and the vibration will free the contacts enough to start the vehicle to drive it. On a standard, locate the switch and tap it lightly and the contacts may then connect so the vehicle can be driven to a repair shop.

The engine will no crank , want to verify what you got happening Here . Do you have a crank - no start or a no crank no start ? Some people on here get this mixed up ! Or when you turn the key to the start position does anything happen ! If when you turn the key to the start position an nothing happens , check the start relay in the under hood fuse / relay box . # 22 also check fuse 30 - F107 40 amp , Do you know what a relay is ? Also check fuse F237 15amp fuse in the central junction box inside the car under the dash , could be left or right side .The shifter not aligned how , not in park ?

95 buick park av. ultra will not start battery good & starter

If the engine will not crank, a mechanic would check for voltage at the starter, the neutral safety switch, and the key switch on the starter circuit.

Check your battery voltage, sound to me like your battery cold cranking amps is low. Its enough the power the lights but not turn the engine over. Have the battery replace

2001 park avenue won't start or turn over

Hey Gordon,
Remove your battery, take it to O'Reilly's, AutoZone, etc.. have them check the CCA (Cold Cranking Amps)-load test.
.. this is what makes your car crank.>Amperage< ... 12+ volts might run the lights.. but just voltage WILL NOT crank your car.. the age of the battery doesn't matter either..

Check engine light on,parked car for 2 weeks.tried to start it would not.checked starter and it is good.turns over at starter with screwdriver but wont crank.will not turn over at ignition switch.can...

Could be a few different things , check engine light likely has nothing to do with your problem.
1st thing to check is that the car in in PARK , it won't start if it isn't. Could be dirty contacts in the key ingition. ( where you put the key ) , car might have a fuse for the ignition , my neon did.
Damaged triger wire (the small one) at the solenoid. Good luck

Engine will not crank intermitantly

Crank sensor can translate heat. Not allowing restart after the turbo heat radiates in the area. Try a wad of aluminum foil in front of the crank sensor(on the block behind the turbo) . It protects it from heat and its a cheep test. If this works you can make a better sheild or leave the foil.
