Question about 1992 Ford F150 SuperCab

1 Answer

1992 dual tanks. Guages worked fine as did change-over dash switch. All of the sudden, I started getting erratic fluctuations on guages. Now, with gas in the tanks, guage always shows empty. I don't know whick tank I'm using. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the response. I'll try to clarify problem. 1992 F150 V8 fuel injected engine. 92,000 miles. Fuel guages and selector switch have always worked. This is a dual tank truck. Recently, the fuel guage began to fluctuate between empty and 3/4 full on front tank and did not register on rear tank. A couple of days ago it quit indicating any fuel level at all, makes no difference which tank I select. I know both tanks have fuel but guage shows empty. Truck starts and runs but since I was switching the selector switch from front to back, I really don't know which tank is being used. Is the selector switch bad? How could both fuel sending units go bad at the same time? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re-check your work...something isn't plugged in correctly or you don't have a good ground.

I don not think both sending units are bad, there is probly a broken wire between the front tank and the instrument cluster, .

On a 89 f150 all of a sudden I had no power to guages, turn sig, dash, replaced starte switch and still nothing. I'm lost need help to locate problem.

look in the positive battery connection. it splits in two, one goes directly to the starter and the other goes to the instruments and ignition, for the description of the problem. I'd say that's where the problem is.

Have a ford E-450 Van With 6.8L V10 When the Ignition switch is in the run position the fuel pump runs and radio comes on but no dash warning lights or guages move, when you continue towards start the dash...

they always come on when you turn the egnitiion switch then go out once you have started the vehicle and its normal for the fuel pump to come on infact thats one way mechanics can tell if the electric fuel pump is working or not i`m not seeing any problem here that all sounds normal.

1992 f 159 dual tanks fuel guage not working

You will need to remove the wire for the sending unit on the tank and ground it to the frame with your selector switched to the tank you are working on and the key on. If gauge comes up to full then the sending unit is bad and gauge is good. Repeat process on other tank. The fuel tank switching valve on the frame also switches the wiring signal from either tank for the gauge. If no change with first test you will want to check the valve.

Heat sensor bad? temperature guage has quick fluctuations.other guages fluctuate.

You might want to make sure the ground strap that goes from the body to the dash is not loose. Caused me problems in a Ford I used to have.
