Why does 96 chrysler seabring convertable automatic sometimes wont shift out of second gear and abs light is on

i take it is a automatic check gearbox transmission fluid or the torque converter may be at fault

needs to be rebuilt internal wear

The car is probably on a steep hill and a lot of pressure is on the park pawl in the automatic transmission. If this is the case, a hard sudden pull should release it. Make sure the brake is on. When parking on a hill in the future use the parking brake before placing the lever in park.

TRY RESETTING OIL CHANGELIGHT BY TURNING THE IGNITION SWITCH TO THE ON POSITION WITH ENGINE OFF.TURN IGNITION SWITCH ON 10 SECONDS PUMP ACCELRATOR SLOWLY 3 TIMES .UNTIL OIL CHANGE LIGHT FLASHES THEN IT HAS RESET.

check the brake light switch under the dash toward the top of the pedal make sure the switch,connector and wiring are ok check the fuse also

From your discription, sounds to me something vital in your transmission has went out. Pull the dip stick and smell the trans. oil if it smells burnt chanses are you need a rebuild or replacement. Even if the oil dosent smell burnt, with that kind of millage and the shuddering when it shifted leads me to that conclusion.

At this point the vehicle needs to be scanned for trouble codes to determine what area to look for a problem.
